Some brief draw stats on the Berlin vs the Petrov
Both these defenses are used by grandmasters if they feel like they need a draw, to increase their drawing chances. But I feel they are slightly different. The Berlin gives slightly more chances for black due to imbalances, like Bishop pair vs Knight + Bishop, opposite pawn majority, but as the Queens are off the board it can become slightly more drawish.

Petrov's Defense if gives black a symmetrical position. But because white has better piece placement and development black can get slightly cramped,so it is slightly more drawish than Berlin, but with less chances for black.

Many reports will tell you the Berlin is more drawish statistically, then other reports, even through MCO-15 and others will tell you that the Petrov becomes much more drawable due to its more mirroring moves on both sides.

My opinion is based upon my own draws over the decades. For me,the Petrov,NOT the Berlin has given me many more draw opportunities.Something to remember, especially for those who are playing a player of the white side and WANT TO DRAW against a much stronger opponent!!

As to a quick Berlin, avoiding a draw but a win for me:

game

Back then,I was over 2500 in rating. Now,trying to reach that level again is like climbing a steep glass mountain of slick ice,10 miles high bare footed and no ice claws. Its the last 70 points from 2430+ to 2500 that is a grind.

So,when you see me sign some of my threads as "TA"you know why, since my prior handle name was tactical abyss.
