My "straight up"rated GK blitz games
In this thread I will post some of my more memorable GK blitz games.Any club member is also encouraged to post any of theirs.I call it my "straight up"games, since as a few of you know,I tend to handicap myself against my opponents in blitz who are much less rated than me.I will give them a major piece in the opening, even a Queen or Rook and still pulverize them!See,its not my weak play or silly handicaps, but THEIR weak play and lack of chess theory in fast paced blitz that destroys themselves! Then I do a "catch up"on tactics, positional strategy, light and dark square control and many more goodies. Most of the time,I just play as usual and let them destroy themselves with senseless moves,no real strategy and just giving their pieces away.
Candy from a baby...I call it.

If you do not believe that for a microsecond, all you have to do is look at my posts in the club entitled "Queen sac blitz games" or "double Rook sacs".But beware,I do not want you to sue me when your eyes pop out of your head!

But,but but...in THIS thread,I am being NOT being merciful and playing ALL my opponents
with knives, razor blades, spears and machine guns with armor piercing bullets. In other words:Straight up.My blitz rating is about 2537 or so on other blitz sites. So,on GK,I have yet to see any serious competition.Hopefully that will change one day!

In this first game,I was shocked when a 2511 rated GK player set foot on my board.I have not seen that before!I was instantly prepared for the worse!I thought,"finally someone to worry about, who may teach ME a lesson"!!But after a few moves, still in book,I quickly clicked to see his blitz rating:1505.And he has played a few pages of games! My initial thought was that he would be only a few hundred points below 2500 in blitz. But when I seen that 1500+,I was not that concerned anymore, but still had to keep on my toes.

So,lets see what happened.Rather than annotate all the moves, let me just give you an overview. We were in book till move # 12.Game was about equal up till move 26 and beyond.
But White began to lose the initiative and tempo.Take a look at his Bishop placements in particular as the game progresses!Whites g and f Bishops are hemmed in by move 26.So,Notice anything? He has much less central control of his Bishops and has a loss of tempo with persistent Bishop moves, while I advance my forces and eventually set up tactics on his King side.Notice,by move #30:

Whites King is already unprotected and exposed on a dangerous g file, with my Rooks of death hovering around. Also notice whites Rooks AND his Knight. What do you see in the above diagram?Whites Rooks are "hemmed in" and blocked by his own pawns! They are almost useless! And their point value has been diminished to about 4.5.And what about whites Knight on e2?Blocked in with no where to go...except to the first rank!

After that,Whites game went south very quickly. After move # 32,I knew he was going to lose...unless I had a power failure!

So,its all about central board control and opening up the game properly with proper development of your pieces.White had several flaws in this game...I just mentioned a few.
There are more. When you have Rooks...use them!Especially in blitz!White did not have to keep his Rooks hiding, nor did he have to make unnecessary repetitive Bishop moves with loss of tempo while I advance tactically!A lesson back to him to keep his major pieces move active and open up his pawn center and more.Notice by mate that HE was "up" one more pawn than me!

But it did him no good.

Mate position by move #40:

Next victim...please!Pehaps,I should have given him one of my Bishops as a handicap by move 5 or so?Hopefully,he will be more careful next time!I declined a second game with him for the moment,so that I could copy/past this game for you.Just goes to show you that even a 2500 rated GK CC player needs "help"in honing his blitz skills!

Setting up some quick PGN positions in this thread for blitz reviews
Just two tools out of many more ways to do it.You should copy and then paste any PGN's I post or others post into any of the board links below. That copy/paste will come off of your GK blitz game board. The first link below has more move analysis attached,if you want to take a closer look at point value positions. On the first link with chess.com,you can first click on "set up position",then first back erase the box that has that unnecessary game info in it.THEN place any PGN info into the box you just cleared out and click load. The game should appear instantly and you can move around the positions, make your own analysis or check some of my notes in a game # position that I have written about.
