heh
I would be Eyesha using jaymar's formula.

Most of those spellings of letters make sense. Aitch is the best you can do, but it looks a lot like bitch. The only one I have a problem with is, of course queue. Why? It's ridiculous.

It's almost ricoculous
it's so ridiculous. I cannot believe we use so many letters to form the sound of one letter. What a waste of perfectly good letters.

again
a woman goes into a hardware store to buy something for her house. the clerk tells her, "one costs twelve cents, forty-four costs twenty-four cents, and the price for a hundred and forty-four is thirty-six cents. what does the woman want to buy?

Again,

The woman...
is buying numbers for her house, no? 12 cents per digit.
soulcrates

Nice one akisame
That's exactly right. I don't even need Jeff to confirm. Well done!

So then
What is the woman's house number?

My first Algebra teacher
told me that the infinite value of decimals was greater than the infinite number of fractions. I told him he shouldn't be a math teacher, and got to sit in the hallway. Needless to say I didn't pass that class, but later turned out to pass both Calculus I & II. Sometimes people can tell you things about yourself that aren't true, but you must have faith in yourself.

soul
i think your first algebra teacher was wrong. that does not make any sense.
soulcrates
07-Oct-06, 13:46

He was defintely
it just goes to show you that even people of authoritarian position can be wrong. It's never ok to just follow your leader, because he/she tells you to. That's where I will always stop. When we are not allowed to question the government it seems similar to that type of situation. I don't back down when I know that I'm right. I always am open to new ideas if they're backed by more than just opinion. In that case I was right, but couldn't prove it to anyone in the room, not even my teacher. Thought that knowledge may be of assistance to anyone who has been or is currently being naysayed.

There I go with a misspelling
I would have gotten a failing grade for that post by any number of english teachers. Definitely, I'm a nit picker about spelling for some reason. It's just always been a habit, but I think it's better to get better, than to accept mediocracy.

Hey.....
....soul. You were right - we can agree on something. I agree with your post above. I was wrong to assume otherwise.

A man knocked on the door of David's house, and had a brief chat with him. Then he went upstairs and took many valuable things. However, he was not a robber.

David had never seen the man before in his life but he let him take his possessions without stopping him.

Can you explain this strange occurrence?

There is only one pair of numbers that satisfies the equation x^y = y^x, where x does not equal y. Can you figure out which two numbers?
soulcrates
20-Nov-06, 19:49

Right off the top of my head.
I don't think that I could.
soulcrates
20-Nov-06, 19:52

1^2 = 2^1,
Is that it?
zorroloco
20-Nov-06, 19:56

nope
1^2 = 1
2^1 = 2
gloomy_den

fairly simple
2 and 4
zorroloco
20-Nov-06, 20:23

yay verily...it is a fairly simple one.
soulcrates
20-Nov-06, 20:26

Whoa.
Would you believe that I scored a 94% in Calculus I in college? Oh ya, at Penn State.

I guess when you're out of practice for almost 10 years,
it kinda goes away. I'm sure I'll get better. Jeff, got any more doozies?

regarding the previous jeff's riddle
Do you call it reposesion? When the things are taken away to pay the debt, which cannot be paid otherwise. It seems to be the case.
zorroloco
20-Nov-06, 20:47

the new guy
seems pretty sharp...yes, gd...we call them repo men - the guys who take your stuff if you don't pay your bills. (a fine and quirky movie is called 'repo man' by the way)
soulcrates
20-Nov-06, 21:21

Those guys have one of the most dangerous jobs.
They're getting shot at all the time, taking people's cars away. I've seen a documentary about it.

Got some time on your hands?
On an analog clock there are either 3 or four digits: two after the : and 1 or 2 before. There are 2 cases in which, multiplying the left of the : and the right together you get the original number backwards. Care to find them?
For example... 6:31 = 6*31= 186 = 6:81 backwards, so that one doesn't work.

are we using 24 hour time here...?

12.59... 12*59=less than 1000 (i'm lazy, i could work it out, but can't be bothered)

ok, if we're on 12 hour time, then it's got to be a 3 digit time, as the highest 4 digit time isn't high enough to get a 4 digit number...

4.41... 4*41=164... 4.61... drat...
4.31... 4*31=124... 4.21... grr...
4.26... 4*26=104... 4.01... getting bored....
4.51... 4*51=204... 4.02...
4.36... 4*36=144... 4.41...
4.46... 4*46=184... 4.81... very bored...
4.56... 4*56=224... 4.22...

there's no pattern, all i can do is get it within an hour...

i don't think there's any in the 4 o'clocks...
let's try 3...

3.51... 3*51=153... 3.51... yipeeeeeeeee!!!! got one.....!
3.41... 3*41=123... 3.21... aw...

definitely no more in the 3's...

5.23... 5*23=115... 5.11...
5.21... 5*21=105... 5.01...
5.31... 5*31=155... 5.51..
5.33... 5*33=165... 5.61...

i think anything else will be too high...
must be the low 6's then...

6.21... 6*21=126... 6.21 yes yes yes, i'm a genius...

figured out that silly game...

so, 3.51 and 6.21 are your answers...
soulcrates

Holy crap Tugger.
That's ridiculous.
