Energy Crisis
When your ideas have no merit and you have no interest in dialogue you Lefties attack your adversary. Are you looking for an excuse to discredit me or kick me out?

I'm not marmalade. You must be out of gas.

on being called a leftist. . .
yes, call me a commie or call me a right-winger --
call me an extremist, call me a radical --
but thank God he doesn't think I'm a liberal.

Ann Coulter's approach to "dialogue" by attacking and demonizing the left instead of presenting fact isn't going to go over well. Right wingers here are generally long on faulty, faith based premises and short on fact. Therefore I assert meaningful "dialogue" is generally not possible. As in this case, where the false statement that Rush is always respectful to women is a disproven as the statement that the moon is made of cheese. No dialogue is possible. You forget Ann's major tenet that you should only talk to the left "if you must". No need...

Coulter
What facts did she get wrong? She's written a ton of books and columns.

“The demon is the mob, and the mob is demonic.”

And with that opening, Ann Coulter launches yet another damning salvo at liberalism in her brand-new book, Demonic: How the Liberal Mob Is Endangering America.

We sat down with Coulter, who’s a legal correspondent for HUMAN EVENTS, for an interview about Demonic, in which she seeks to get to the bottom of what makes liberals tick.

Coulter tells us that she could never understand how liberals can go to so many impressive colleges “and yet they seem so stupid.” That is until now. Coulter says that in the course of her research she’s concluded that today’s liberals hit every behavioral pattern of “groupthink,” or as she dubs it, the “mob.”

In Part One of our interview, Coulter astutely describes that while liberals push for “innovation” on the subjects of “thousand-year-old institutions like marriage,” they are actually “hide-bound traditionalists” when it comes to scientific innovation. Hence the banning of incandescent lightbulbs!

“My entire life I keep hearing about how Christians are anti-science. Nope. In my lifetime it was liberals screaming about Alar on apples and wanting to shut down nuclear power.”

==================================================================

This is not only absurdly distorted but a simple illustration of the problems when you argue from the blind person's view of what an elephant looks like compared with the whole (to be fair, you can find examples on left and right). Obviously modern LEDs are far more advanced than 19th century incandescent bulbs, but who cares when you only want to ridicule?

"Dialogue" isn't really that practical as long as the blind man and elephant syndrome is the norm. We operate from totally different views of the world and even our brains are different. That is how it is.

This comment from that site illustrates the issue very well:

"I can't have a ten-minute conversation with a Leftist before they start using pre-baked Leftist talking points. I counter them with facts, and they get angry. Before long--and they ALWAYS do it--they start the name-calling.

They simply don't know why they believe what they believe. They have this mishmash of slogans, talking points, and spoon fed tripe from college, television and movies floating around in their brains, and, lacking coherence, they don't know how to have a discussion with give-and-take arguments.

I do everything I can to avoid talking politics with Leftists who are neighbors, co-workers, and friends, but they just can't control themselves. In the middle of talking about the beautiful weather, out pops some diatribe about global warming. Talk about the delicious meal we're having, and out comes some crap about GM foods. It's endless. And Boring."

I think the same about the right. Nothing personal, that is just life.

sometimes she is correct.

"I'm a Christian first, and a mean-spirited, bigoted conservative second, and don't you ever forget it."

"The ethic of conservation is the explicit abnegation of man's dominion over the Earth. The lower species are here for our use. God said so: Go forth, be fruitful, multiply, and rape the planet — it's yours. That's our job: drilling, mining and stripping. Sweaters are the anti-Biblical view. Big gas-guzzling cars with phones and CD players and wet bars — that's the Biblical view."

<When your ideas have no merit and you have no interest in dialogue you Lefties attack your adversary.>

<Today I will begin my lesson called How a Coward Rolls. If you want to be a coward, Zorro has taught us the lesson>

so are you a lefty w/ no interest in dialogue or just an incompetent right wing loony? inquiring minds want to know.

by the way, if you want to see honest dialogue, and your feeble response to it, look at my post of 7:14 this morning, and your response at 7:57.

... your note: <<as an aside, re <We do not need to critique each other to stay on point.> i disagree. we do need to critique each other. what we should avoid is personal attacks, which is not at all the same.>> ... of course, you're right, I was thinking personal attacks when I was writing the word 'critique' ...

... also, incidentally, I too was thinking about marmalade as I read through the posts.

I think Coulter knows exactly what she's doing.
She appeals to the demographic that thinks we have become too nice, too politically correct, too appeasing in order to "make everybody happy" ...

In our haste to bring "world peace" we've compromised who we are and failed to call a spade a spade. Coulter fights that and does not care who she pisses off in doing so.

"If only we could get Muslims to boycott all airlines, we could dispense with airport security altogether."

It's been said that New Yorkers are not rude - they're just being honest. The same could be said for Ann. And a lot of Americans understand that.

art ...
... I agree she appeals to that, rather narrow, demographic ... but that group does not represent a majority of the citizenry who believe we've stuck our nose into too many other countries' business (even GOP prez candidate Ron Paul believes this).

Why are you lumping all Muslims into some sort of singular category as something to be feared ... it's kinda like what we used to do with blacks and Jews, isn't it? Or, was that your intention?
thearrtofnoise
18-Mar-12, 09:28

If we've got Jews and Blacks ...
- flying planes into buildings, bombing Tubes, bombing trains, bombing hotels, bombing buses.

Then they have Public Relations problems on a grand scale. Since they don't, then they don't have Muammar Gaddafi/ Osama bin Laden/ Abu Musab al-Zarqawi poster children.

Don't do these things in the name of your religion, and you will not have the same perception attached to your generations.

Perception is not always reality. But it beats reality BY LIGHT YEARS!!!

yes. the mean-spirited crowd.

"If only we could get Muslims to boycott all airlines, we could dispense with airport security altogether."

the words of an idiot. tim mcveigh and anders breivik and others who worship 'the right god' get a free pass. not only stupid, but inflammatory and bigoted. let's not forget coulter's words - she is christian first and a mean-spirited bigot second.

lol @ McVeigh
He never worshipped "the right God"

He was an anti-government criminal. He wrote "Invictus" as his final written statement before his death.

"Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul."

Last time I checked, being the Captain of one's soul is not a "Christian prayer"

But thanks for trying! In order to know a tree you have to witness it's fruit. McVeigh never displayed any kind of Christian fruit.

... just how does one avoid folks like McVeigh ... I guess you're saying we need to avoid all Christians because of the acts of a few? I don't get your logic. It seems you're just trying to justify either your prejudices or some form of self righteous behavior. It also seems you're missing a great deal of education and understanding for Middle Eastern culture ... or are you saying that we have the only worthy culture to embrace?

My logic is ...
McVeigh was a Christian like I'm a ham sandwich. How do we avoid folks like him? We are not going to get better people until we get better parenting. Love your children unconcitionally and they'll be just fine.

They won't need to government to be their religion.

I've lived among the Afghans and the Iraqis and the Kuwaitis
and the Saudis and the people of Qatar. I know the poverty. I know the illiteracy. I know they still own slaves. I know of their affairs. And their alcohol. I also know a lot of Muslims who are good people who are fighting an uphill battle trying to reverse the societal problems and fight for the future of their nations in positive, non-radical ways. The problem is their is no Pope in their Universe who puts everything right. Everyone has become a judge in his/her own eyes and "by any means necessary" (violence against non-combatants) has become the weapon-of-choice for more than a few radicals.

1972 Munich Olympics, case-in-point.

... so do we now need to make a list of atrocities committed by Christians in the last 2-3 decades in order to understand why so many now hate the U.S.? Do we need to list the unjustified historical advances over the centuries by Christian nations? All well-intended, and maybe we can explain away why these things happened. But why are you perpetuating this kind of backward thinking regarding other cultures (e.g. Muslims) who may have many justifiable reasons to hate us? It makes you sound like might is right and therefore we need to get our way and disregard the collateral damage. I still don't get your logic ... it isn't objective.
