Virtue signaling |

Moving the goalposts. They can fly a flag if they want, but it should not exceed the regulation size. So why not simply comply? Answer:- as Zorro says, it is virtue-signalling. They are deliberately breaching the regulations NOT so the nation benefits from their actions, but to draw attention to their 'patriotism'. Wouldn't it be more patriotic to obey the law of the land? I expect Australia is slightly different in some respects, but we have the same imbeciles over here. One particularly famous election poster showed Pauline Hanson, a minor-party racist and white supremacist, wrapped in the flag; as if she was Harry Flashman, the Hero of Jalalabad. I think there is also a degree of over-compensation involved. No, not over-compensation for the size of THAT, Shiva, but for the inability to put together a coherent statement in words or any other act that actually benefits the nation. Does this dealership do everything legally available to minimise their tax liabilities? Not that there's anything wrong with that; but if it saved a thousand dollars by buying a smaller flag, then it could donate that cash to a Veteran's Charity and still not be any poorer, and those vets they are so fiercely 'defending' with their big flag might enjoy a better quality of life. |

driver comes flying up the street into pushy tailgate behind me. I pull off the road and catch a glimpse of a big "Co-Exist" bumper sticker on their car as they fly past. pretty funny. at the end of the street they are three cars back at the stop sign, while I turn right a little before that. nice co-existing. get out of their way and we'll all be fine. but yeah, we have big flag people, big sign people, big banner people, and one of my favorites obnoxious oversize truck window sticker people. I've almost started a thread on some of the "better" displays. the window stickers are often more piggish than political. but they seem similar somehow. luckily, all of these are fairly uncommon. oh, the isis-style pickup flag people. that's another good one. one window sticker that didn't quite make the cut, but that I thought was not bad was something like "No Air Bags. We Die Like Men." Or maybe it was seatbelts. |

FyssheYeah… I’ve seen similar. |

stickers, etcBut I don't think Australia needs me to have a flag sticker; most people who would see it are already aware that Australia exists. Nor do I clutter up with religious, political or tourist stickers. Most of all, I DETEST the 'baby on board' stickers. Only worth wearing if matched by a 'mother-in-law in boot' sticker immediately below it. |

I brought up co-exist because of the clash with the personality of the owner, ...at least at that moment. the BIG window stickers are not a normal sticker. they aren't that common. so, maybe some haven't seen them. the displayers seem like they might be similar to the other big thing displayers. not only is nobody going to tell them what to do, THEY are going to yell (visually), because "&$#@ 'em!" Oh! I'm at a canoe and kayak racing event in the mid-90s. dude has a van, with "No Whinning!" painted large on the side. I told him that it says (phonetically) "No Winning," and that "No Whining" has one "n" in the middle. He said "nope, it's correct the way it is," or something like that. Good stuff. He probably figured it out eventually. Cars last a long time. |

Hoggy 16:23That guy who produced the 'No Whinning!' stickers is probably still laughing at the number of arrogant yet ignorant people who paid for the privilege of being the butt of the joke. |

coexist morecar comes up right on my tail. I pull to the side. they charge ahead and get right behind the next car. one sticker on the back of the tailgater's car: Coexist! It's a pattern! not the same car as before, which had a bunch of other stickers. why do they think "Get Out of My Way, I'm a Psycho" is spelled c-o-e-x-i-s-t? anyway, gave me a laugh... |

or maybe it's just me. this coexist [sticker episode] was minor, but still made me laugh. stopped at a light. guy pulls up to my left, ...and keeps going until his rear wheels are five or six feet past the line where you're supposed to stop. ...giving me a nice view of the CoExist sticker on the back of the car. window sticker on another car says: "if you see me hit a curb, mind ya business." seems strange. maybe a song lyric or something like that I suppose. |

mo-oneIn 1939 a huge Nazi rally held at Madison square gardens for about 30k. And look at how patriotic they are!!!! Our founding fathers took center stage. Such patriots! Not to dissimilar from MAGA patriots. www.google.com Notice the sign the Free American. The average person keeps falling for the same stupid bullshit over and over and over again. We deserve what's coming. |
