Too late
we will prob loose a p out of this and retreat our Kn as well...if Qxp, QxQ, RxQ then our Kn prob goes back to b6 and we loose a p....This will prob occur if white wants to exchange Q's..let's see.....

Too Late

If white plays 20.Rc3 then we have Be6.
If 20.Re3 Bf5.
I think white will try 20.Rg3 Qe6 21.f3 Bf5.

attack of white if :

20. ...Bf5 21.e6 Qxe6 22. Qxg7 mate

or 20...Be6 21. Bh6!

I think d best move wud be :

20. Qe6 21. h3 Bf5

Board
Sorry, thought his R was on d1 and not c1, must have mised that move. That tied in to my last comment. Not surprised now by w's move since this is what I thought a few moves back. So now we need to make a move; I like the idea of Qe6...it at least keeps us in the game but w now has the advantage.

Our move 20
My vote is to move 20...Qe6. If 21.h3 or 21.f3 then 21...Bf5. If 22.Bh6 then 22...Bg6.

20...Qe6
20...Qe6 21.f3 Bf5 I think white will play 22.Rd1

So,
No doubt about this move: I will post 20... Qe6!

A bit of a surprise, so....
W's taking his time and is being very methodical w/ his moves.....we need to survive this attack since he's got us tied up very well. My suggestion is Bh5.
taurus0624

i agree
Bh5 works well to protect the d1-h5 diagonal

21... Bh5
I vote for Bh5, as well. This keeps the W rook off of d1 for the time being so that our d-pawn doesn't become a problem, and we can move a later ...Bg6 if necessary.
opengames
04-Dec-10, 17:16

21...Bh5
21...Bh5 and if 22.Bh6 then 22...Bg6. If then 23.Rd1, we can support our d5 pawn with 23...Rfd8.

So,
21... Bh5 is what I will post!!

Candidate moves ...
I don't get white's move. Can anyone see what they might be up to with that?

Just off the top of my head, here are some candidate moves to consider, in no particular order:

Bg6, Rfd8, b5, a5.

Discuss ...

White's move 22
Maybe they expected 22...f6, & we'd have 2 pieces & a pawn attacking their e5 pawn...? Of course, they can stop any such attempt with Bxc4. I think we should leave our Bishop on h5 now, since it keeps White's Rooks & Queen off the h5-d1 squares. Maybe 22...Rfd8 is as good as we have? I'm not the best player here, so let's see what stronger players say...

22.Rfc8
22.Rfc8
Maybe white is aiming to remove blacks knight then double their rooks on the e-file.
I don't like breaking the pawn island on a7-b7.

Rfd8
If white plays Bxc4, we can play dxc4, getting rid of our isolated pawn, gain a tempo on the white Q, and we get control of the open d-file.

I still don't see the point behind Re1, so I'm thinking that was either a mistake, or as opengames suggests, an attempt to get us to play the losing ...f6?.

White's Move
Also a bit confused over W's move, it seems W gave us some breathing room. Maybe W is happy with his position and wants to see our next move. I don't see much on the left side of the board for us to move so maybe either abvancing our a or b pawn up or moving over our f R to cover our Kn and then get that piece more involved. I do think W made a useless move and it may have got us back in the game.

Rfc8
I like the active Rfc8, to meet 23.Bxc4 with Rxc4 and doubling rooks on the c-file. At least that would give us an active game. Maybe 22.Re1 was played so that they could prepare a plan along the lines of Bg5-c1, f2-f4-f5? I'm not sure how easy that would be to execute, but it would give a reason for their 22nd move.

I got
2 votes for 22... Rfd8 (hityerclock, opengames) and 2 votes for 22... Rfc8 (caknight, andys100). andywm, your choice is, I think 22... Rfc8 ("to cover the knight"), but I am not sure, can you clear this up for me? Thanks.

Tie-breaking
doji, looks like you'll have to cast the tie-breaking vote for our next move!

16-Dec-10, 12:08

I agree with andys100 about the probable plan behind 22Re1. I tend to think Rfd8 is slightly better because it protects the isolani, and if the a pawn can be advanced then the other rook can move to c8.
doji
17-Dec-10, 07:46

Yep,
opengames, it seems like I will have to do that. So, I will post 22... -Rfd8, because, if I don't count andywm's move (he has a vacation flag), this move has a slide advantage. I didn't take the position into account, because I read the post of the other club as well, and it wouldn't be fair if I interfere in the game itself.

Move 23.
After our 22...Rfd8 white should try 23.Rd3.

Move 23.
Worked out what I was doing wrong

I also agree with Caknight. 23. Rd3 was what I was going to suggest too
