Good Read Doji
Yes, I was away for 4 days and time was limited to check in....the club made a good move and we have regained our breath in this match

I vote for Rc8

23. Rac8 or 23. Rdc8?

Rook must move
Rd to c8 is my recomm

Rd-c8 seems best, but holding that isolani is problematic.

23...Rdc8
On move 22 my suggestion was Rfc8 to avoid the loss of tempo. White is giving the tempo back with Bg5 instead of Rd3.

Move 23.
I know this may seem strange to most people, but I was just wondering what people's thoughts
(advatanges and disadvantages) of 23. Rd7. Even if 24. Ba4, then Rc7, which also then sets up
for the double rooks with 25 Rac8. Also, Im thinking that the reason Bg5, even though it was
suggested it gives loss of tempo, Bg5, sets up a possible Bf6 for black, posing a potential
greater threat on the g pawn..

Anyway, im no expert, hope that makes sense, and go club !

Move 23
Sorry I forgot to add which rook I meant. I want to play Rdc8. Instead of doubling up the rooks
depending on whites next move I'd be more interested in playing 24...a5. If white does play Bf6
then we can play Bg6. I'd prefer to move the bishop instead of moving the g - pawn to g6 which
can expose the king to attack.

23...Rd7
We just moved the Rook from f8 to d8; if we wanted it on c8 we should have moved it there in 1 turn, not 2. So, I say 23...Rd7.

23...Rd7
I like the rook on the d-file, since it makes Bxc4 a tough choice for white, though there's nothing wrong with 23...Rc8. White hasn't really gained a tempo as his Bg5 move doesn't help him - he's gong to have to move that B again.

I agree with Kendo-ka about not exposing the g pawn, and in that regard 24. a5 does seem a
smart move. But I dont think moving Rdc8 after we maybe should have on Move 23, wil, really
do anything. Rd7, does make the decision tougher for white, and gives him more to think about.
Like has been said, he has had a chance to really take control of the tempo, but hasnt really
done so

Even though
we didn't move the R to c8 at the time which I did suggest, now is the time to do it...no time for procrastination

23...Rd7 trying to defend the d pawn after Rd3 was one of the reasons I preferred Rfd8. After 24 Rd3, White could play 25 g4 and then 26 Rf-d1. The mobile K side majority is starting to be a real threat then. I am not clear how Rc8 is going to give us more counterplay.

Move 23...
After 23...Rd7 24.Rd3 (pinning the weak e5 pawn & leaving the knight in danger) b5 25.a4 a6
After 23...Rdc8 24.Rd3 (attacking the weak e5 pawn) Nb6 25.Bxd5 Nxd5 26.Qxd5 Qxd5 27.Rxd5 Rxc2 puts the game at about even.

Each move has pros and cons, but also dependent on the oppositions moves. One thing I've
always tried to focus on (and yes it's a basic principle most people know) but I wanna say it
anyway, and that is the fact of forcing the opponent into a move where essentially, you have
made the decision for them. If you look at the lines from Rc8, while definitely not the worst
option, I think it gives white alot more choice than Rd7

The votes:
2 votes for 23... Rdc8 (andywm, caknight)
3 votes for 23... Rd7 (sacul219, opengames,hityerclock)
1 vote for 23... Rdc8 (kendo-ka)

dmaestro, your choice isn't clear to me, can you clarify? Thanks!!

And for all, a merry Christmas!!

Rd7
All in all, that move seems to me in practical terms to offers more chances for activity.

Doji
please clarify since you have kendo's move the same as mine and caknight so it appears to be a tie with 3 votes each...are you going to cast a vote to break the tiebreaker?

dmaestro said he voted for Rd7 so I guess Rd7 now had 4 votes and will be the posted move

andywm: sorry for the confusion, you are right, kendo-ka's move is the same as yours and caknight's.

sonata296: you are also right, dmaestro votes for 23... Rd7 and gets 4 votes, so that will be the move!

24...Rc7
24...Rc7 or b5 to support the knight.

25...Bg6
White's immediate threat is 25.Bf6. They can play this now because having played 24.f4, white can answer 25...Bg6 (not 25... g6? 26.Rd3 intending 27.g4, and white will win) with 26.f5! Qxf5 27.Bxg7. We don't want any part of that.

In light if this, 25.. Bg6 is forced.

Either 25...Bg6 or 25...b5.

Continuation
If 25...b5; 26.Bf6, Bg6. If then 27.f5, Qxf5, etc. (Maybe followed by 28.Rf1). Am I missing something?
caknight

White's immediate threat is 25.Bf6?
I don't see 25.Bf6 as that big of a threat, after 25...Bg6 26.f5 Qxf5 27.Bxg7?? Kxg7 28.e6+ Qf6.
After 26.Qf2 gxf6 27.f5 Qc6 28.fxg6 hxg6 29.exf6.
andywm

Bg6
first, it stops their f pawn from threatening our Q while it also attacks his c2 pawn if they attack our Kn.
