26...Bf5
Has anyone considered 26...Be4 instead of blocking whites c4 pawn with Bf5? After 26...Be4 27.Bf5 g6 28.a4 bax4 29.Bxa4 Rc7.

I think in the long run 26...Bf5 is a bit safer though. Either way I think white will play 27.Bf6 as hityerclock pointed out in his analysis.

26...Be4 worth analyzing ...
it's too late in the evening for me, but maybe someone else can take a look at what happens after 26...Be4 27.f5 followed by 28.e6. I don't know if white can sustain the passed pawn on e6.

Probably correct......
if we play Bf5, white prob moves Bf6 and we push our p to g6...I think we are very safe with this line

Our move 26
If we play 26...Be4, I'll expect 27.f5, as hityerclock suggested, cutting off our Bishop from g6. If we choose to block White's f4 pawn, I prefer to do it with our Bishop by 26...Bf5 instead of our Queen (26...Qf5), because a Queen is too valuable to play such a passive role. So, I think I'll go with 26...Bf5.

1 vote for 26... f5 (sacul219)
1 vote for 26... Qf5 (sacul219)
4 votes for 26... Bf5 (hityerclock, caknight, andywm, opengames)

So, I will post 26... Bf5

Hmm
This is why I preferred 26...Qf5, I think now we should play 27...g6 28...d4, with preparation
for 28...d3, 29. cxd3 Rxd3 or 29 cxd3, Bxc3
hityerclock

27...g6
... as expected.

Sacul219: I liked 26...Qf5 at first, too, but after some analysis realized it was a losing move. See one of my previous comments.

yes....
a6 and all as planned
opengames

27...g6; NOT 27...Bg6
27...Bg6 loses to 28.f5. I expect White to move his Rook off g3, followed by playing g4. Then, maybe 28...h5 to prepare for g4...

meant g6
sorry, don't know why I said a6. The move is p to g6

g6
I would try to exchange Qs via b6 if we can.

So
27... g6 it will be!!

My choice for the next move
I am first to offer a move suggestion! This chance will not be wasted! I am suggesting a move that I'm 100% sure everyone in the club will agree to!

Our move 28...tip White King on his side!

Next move
Great idea if we could only get the Elite Pawns to go along.
How about 28...Qb6 if they say no.
hityerclock
02-Feb-11, 18:46

28...Qb6
Forced, since we can't allow Qh4.
andywm

I suggest
pe6 and pushing his R back; I don't think we need to exchange Q's yet

Next move
andywm I think you mean28...ph6 since blacks queen in on e6.
taurus0624

queen exchange
I go for queen exchange (Qb6) coz there is no stopping for white's Qh4. Even with our h6, white could threaten
mate at h8 if our pawn eats the rook.
andywm
03-Feb-11, 15:09

Correct Cak
sorry, looked too quick at the squares...my suggestion is ph6
sacul219
03-Feb-11, 15:28

Qb6
Yes, I vote Qb6 here also, because Proudlypinoy is right, 28...h6 leads to 29. Qh4, hxg5 (if we
made the exchange) then 30. Qh4 and mate..

I also suggest if 28...Qb6, then 29. Qxb6 axb6, because our Knight is in a decent position there
and i dont think moving it back for 29....Nxb6 would be useful. Plus, even though that doubles
the pawns on the b-line, there still stand no real threat for them once the Queen is out of the
picture..

My second choice
Since we have so many in the club not cooperating with my first suggestion, I will swallow my pride & go along with the offer of a Queen exchange by 28...Qb6. If White declines to capture on b6, I think we should take his Queen. We can then try to capitalize on our Queen-side pawn majority. If he trades on b6, I would prefer to recapture with our Knight; otherwise, we will have a doubled and isolated pawn on the b-file.

Heh
Andy has a point. I haven't done much analysis, but 28...h6 only leads to mate if we capture the rook. 29. Qh4 is stymied by Kh7. 28...Qb6 is the safe bet, to be sure, but danger is my middle name. I vote 28...h6.

28...h6 works ...
28....h6 29.Qh4 Kh7 and white can't make any progress. If 30.Rxg6 Bxg6 31.g4 Nd2 and black wins. We can also play 30...fxg6.

That being said, I'd much rather take the queens off the board, since their queen is currently their most active piece, and I think we stand better after the Q exchange. So I still vote for 28...Qb6
andywm
04-Feb-11, 16:39

Yes
h6 does work and no mate by white. I still believe this is safer and allows at least a draw. Taking the Q's off the board is ok as well. White will take the exchange then Kn xQ.
doji

Okay,
28... Qb6 it will be!!
