![]() I first became a Gameknot subscriber in September 2006 and later a premium member a year later. I started my first club the following January, which never attracted any members. I met Paul in March 2008 when I joined The Bible Database Club (gameknot.com) of which he is the founder. He made me a moderator almost immediately. Then I changed the name of my first club to the Knights of Honor Club (gameknot.com) in August of that year. While I very much enjoy playing multiple games at GK, I equally appreciate the ability to meet and make new people from all over the world who often become good friends. First and foremost, however, I am a born again Christian. I came to know the Lord as my personal Savior at the tender age of 8. I will share my testimony in detail in another thread. God has blessed me with a beautiful wife of 21+ years; we have no children. We live in a modest home located close to Nashville, Tennessee. As my username implies, I am an avid hiker. In fact, aside from chess, hiking is my passion. See my website, www.tennesseehiker.com, for information about my hiking exploits in Tennessee. My other interests include landscape and waterscape photography, computer skills teaching, web design, writing, and of course chess. |

![]() I teach mathematics at a community college. Married to a wonderful wife with two kids. My son is approximately 4.94 years old and my daughter approximately 1.16 years old. Other than chess, hobbies include bench pressing, scuba diving, and recently running. (I ran in my first 5K last month.) |

![]() I am married to a lovely Christian woman (24 years now) and we have been blessed with 6 delightful children, all of whom profess faith in our Lord Jesus Christ. Praise God for His blessings! I was saved at a young age. (5 or 6 years old) Believe it or not, the biggest impediment to my salvation was the enigma of "where did God get His beginning?" Pretty hard to imagine isn't it? I guess my NEED to know answers to many of those deep questions of the faith has a long history with me. God has been good, and has indulged my insatiable quest for answers. Having found many of those answers, I feel obliged now to help others who may be going through similar struggles. I sing bass, in a Gospel Bluegrass group (also playing guitar and harmonica). I own a watch and clock repair store where I try to be a Christian witness to my community, and try to provide for the needs of my large family along with my wife who is a nurse. I've done 4 years of mission work in the Philippines (1986-1990) together with my wife as well. Phew! We've been kinda busy.............6 children and all! I am co-founder and now currently one of the co-captains of "The King's Apostles" chess team. BTW, I LOVE the Kings gambit! Blessings in Christ Paul |

![]() I was saved when I was 17 then wandered away from my faith in my late teens/early 20's. I was able to rationalise God away believing if He did exist that I would be saved because I was basically a "good" person. How wrong was that, eh? I married and and 2 beautiful children but divorced 5 years ago. I remarried in May this year. I met my now wife, daddysgirl (daddy refers to our Lord), here on GK. She is someone that takes her faith very seriously. After meeting her I decided I should read some of the Bible to see what she was on about. Sadly I had to go out and buy one (now between us we have at least 5 different translations so we can compare passages when studying). As a result of my reading and our discussions and listening to various ministers on the radio (Greg Laurie and Michael Youssef) I recommitted my life to Christ in June this year. I honestly think that she was sent to save me. I joined the Bible Database club as it was another good way to find out the meanings of some of what I was reading and was honoured to be made moderator by BigPaul. I'm really happy to be here and to be able to share in the inspiration of others and to share what I can. |

![]() Like the scenario with you and your wife, I sincerely believe God has and is continuing to use Teresa to keep me on the "straight and narrow." He ordained us as husband and wife even before our very existence. I intend to make many encouraging posts in our club after I finish designing and publishing phase 1 of PraiseToHisName.com, which is currently under construction. I invite you and our other members to start posting inspiring messages as well to help get us through this most joyful but taxing of seasons. |

![]() I am the smoldering wick of Isaiah 42, one of those who thought the grace of the Lord Jesus had passed him by ... and behold, it had not! After years of trying to be good enough, worthy enough, circumspect enough, all I became was joyless enough to slide away -- and that for many years, until I thought too much time and way too much sin had choked me off from the Father. But what is impossible with men truly is possible with God, and once He broke through the curtain of lies that surrounded me, I let go and let God. And the zeal, peace and walk with God that I had wanted for so long became real. When I look at where I was and where God has brought me to in Christ today, I know for a certainty that miracles happen still. And knowing that I'm nowhere close to where I want to be, or where He wants me to be, I press on toward the mark. Oh yeah, and I play a little chess, too. Just like in chess, I make my share of blunders. But just as God has forgiven me through Christ, so He will do for anybody who simply opens the door when they hear Him knocking. Just don't wait until you're the one doing the knocking. |

![]() Paul, I am very sorry to hear you have been confined to a wheelchair. However, I am convinced that God has a ministry for you, perhaps as an ambassador to others who are wheelchair bound. Well said, dodgerdog00. We have all come short of the glory of God but are saved by His grace. We look forward to reading your postings. In Christ's love, Jim |
