Co-captain for
Hi folks:

I'm johnclark, a moderator for the club. I also serve as co-captain for the team, "Chess". I'm very much into the learning aspect of the game. A big thrill for me is when I run across something, try it out and it actually works. We hope to bring a lot of this to this club through annotated games, practical articles, personal insights, suggestions and discussion.

Hi all
I am Dave and the Team Captain for Kodiak.

Team Checkmate has always been one of the best teams and made up of great people and I was honored to be asked to be part of this club.

At the ripe old age of 36 ( I turn 37 in March but I am thinking about losing the ability to count ) I am a full time college student. After 16 years of working in the manufacturing field and realizing I could not make good money anymore I decided I need a degree!

I did it because I did stand up comedy on the side and have been trying to get on the radio but it would appear that you need a degree for that no matter how funny you are.

I live in Denver with my wife and daughter, a female cocker spaniel, and 3 female cats...so needless to say I live more in the estrogen ocean than in Denver.

Hope that covered enough....lol

Glad you started this club....
My name is Jeff and i was stumbling blindly around GK just playing random games when dbf1 invited me to join the team. I wasn't sure what to expect, but was pleasantly surprised to find how friendly everyone is in the team games. Not too long after that he asked me to help out as a co captain. I have really enjoyed watching the team grow and am proud to be a member. Many thanks to dbf1 for all of his hard work keeping it going. Best of luck in all of your games. JW

Hi!
My name is Neil, I live in London, back playing after a 10 year plus absence and find the games here are great for relearning opening theory, plus my brain has clearly slowed down with the gap so the pace suits me better than live games!

Good job dbf1 keeping all this going by the way!

Hello
Greetings fellow chess enthusiasts,

Moss here, and I have been playing for roughly a year. I am looking forward to discussing every aspect of chess and maybe playing a few games. And since I know I will be asked, yes Henry Bird is my favorite chessplayer along with Bent Larsen. I am currently not on a team because... I have not finished enough games yet. But I will soon join one once I get past that little roadblock.

Hello
I am Lee, a new member of this club. I am a 74 year old male, living (retired) near Dallas, Texas. I started playing chess in 1960 while in the U.S. Air Force, later, as a civilian in the 1980s, I was active in an Texas Instruments, Inc. in-plant computer chess club. The T. I. club played chess very much like GameKnot (post a move and wait for reply via an updated computer-generated chess board). But since retiring from Texas Instruments in 1996 (after 31 years of hard, slave labor work as electronic technician), I have not played any chess. I "discovered" GameKnot in late January, 2009 and have taken up the sport (or is it War?) of Chess again. I MUST say it is just as enjoyable now as it was in 1985; I am sorry now that I waited so long to get back in the battle. I am a member of the team "Chess". It appears to a great team, I just hope I don't drag it down....looking forward to many interesting games and lessons.

A Little About Me
First, I appreciate David's (dbfi) invitation to join this club. I look forward to reading your posts, and I will do my best to contribute as well.

My real name is Jim. While I have many hobbies and interests, I only have a few passions, one of which is now chess. I love the game as it challenges my mind and keeps it active. Additionally, I have made many good friends from countries all over the world while playing chess through the Gameknot community.

A friend introduced me to Gameknot 3 years ago. At that time I knew little more about chess than how the pieces moved. While this friend prefers to play one game at a time, I quickly started playing the maximum number allowed for non-paying members. However, over the next few months, my passion for the game quickly escalated; I wanted more. Therefore, I became a premium subscriber in November 2007. Upon doing so I immediately delved into all of Gameknot's opportunities including clubs, tournaments, and a team. Moreover, I gradually increased the number of games simultaneously played until nearly reaching my maximum of 100. I have recently discovered the hard way that more than 55 is simply more than I can effectively handle. Nonetheless, I seldom decline a challenge regardless of ones rating.

During my first 35 games or so, I lost every one of them excepting timeouts, although most of my opponents had higher ratings than did I. Moreover, the friend who introduced me to Gameknot defeated me our first successive 15 games. However, undeterred, I continued to play the game until my own strategies started forming. Now winning about as many games as I lose, I am beginning to seek a more serious level of the game. I have developed a need to learn as much about the game as I possibly can learn.
