etaoni 25-Jan-09, 12:50	football chess Here is the idea provided by one of the players on Gameknot ... all traditional chess rules apply plus additional feature: when a King of any color reaches the last rank (8th for White and 1st for Black) game ends and the player who managed this, is the winner ... what do you think about this idea ? I would like to hear from you ... are there any obstacles you foresee ? is it playable and enjoyable ? If you like it we can open a single game to test it or start immediately with a tournament ... the_elite_knight 26-Jan-09, 02:12	Hi Yeah I like the idea of this game, I guess when reaching the 8th rank its like scoring a goal in football. Obviously though when trying to get the King to the other side, there shall be a lot of checks. I think it would be too dangerous for either opponent trying to get the King across too soon until pieces are exchanged. Another variation is Fischer Random chess with the pieces lined up in different areas behind the pawns.

darknessvisible 26-Jan-09, 10:14	Throwing down the gauntlet I expect this variant will really test your endgame technique. The usual strategem of creating a passed pawn will not apply however, making things a little uncomfortable or unusual. What is the best way to escort your king to the 8th rank where there is the material parity of say a k+p ending? In such case it would be a matter of who has the opposition as the player in zugzwang has to move and let his opponent's king through. Enough speculation! Who wants to play?
