- - The Rulez - -
Ok the rules are simple and i hope logical.

Several of you readers already have played a Walking the Walk game with me.
but for those who have not here are the rules..

- The master (2k+) never has played a game with you before
- You have played 50 games or more on GK
- You are rated under 1850
- You have Talked the Talk
- You will play the white pieces
- The Master (2k+) will start the game ( always )
- You will discuss or annotate the game
- You do not give up, you have to walk it all the way unless you have a proved forced mate!
- You can only play 1 Walking the Walk game with each Master (2k+) in this club
- A second game ? Well that will be a other section more about that later
- ( I always play rated, i can not ask the same from my fellow 2K+ players but i hope they do )

Is rule 6 up for discussion...?
I hadn't noticed this before, but I would much rather the ... erm ... candidate issue the challenge. At that, I need to know what 'Talking the talk' is.
Cheers,
Ion

Private Games?
Makes no difference to me whether games are rated, but I would prefer they be private games, which I hope would foster more frank discussion of the ongoing game. OK?

private for you, or public so we all can learn
Are you Patroclus or Achilles?

Patroclus or Achilles?
Depends on who plays the role of Hector. In this club, I suspect I am Patroclus

Private vs. Public
You make a good point shamash. I was thinking private for discussion but annotations would be public. Really no big deal either way. Just pride getting in the way of good chess.

"Beware the Greeks and the gifts they bring"
Matt, you clearly can take on strong competition, build a strong position, and
win with cunning tactics ----
as shown in your quick victory over a 1950-rated player's Sicilian:

game

Your annotations would be illuminating for all, particularly regarding your piece-sacrifices

if i play it will be public and rated.
there will be 'no' discussion of the position during the game. This is inappropriate. If it were a
student -teacher, private unrated game it would be different. After the game i will help with
analysis whether or not i win or lose. If someone wants to take the walk with me then let it be
so. Drop me a line and i will send the challenge....

Such were the calamities which the two mighty sons of Cronos brought upon the fighting hosts
by their conflicting wills. Zeus willed victory to Hector and the Trojans.... Poseidon was for the
Argives; he slipt out secretly from the sea and supported them because he was grieved at their
discomfiture and indignant against Zeus.... So the two gripped the rope of war and tugged away
over both armies with strong pulls, never breaking or loosing it while they loosed the knees of
many a man.

Er...
- You have Talked the Talk

ion, I don't really know, but it seems to be an expression; I've read it several times on easy's comments.

But this one I cannot understand...

- You will play the white pieces
- The Master (2k+) will start the game ( always )

"will start" means that the master is the one that will challenge you? So you cannot challenge a master... I guess (unless black moves first

... I was thinking in terms of this club and how we identify someone who 'talks the talk'. I had supposed it described people who have annotated games, commanted on others' annotated games, and/or participated fairly frequently in forum discussions. But I just wanted to know whether my understanding of what easy19 had in mind was correct.

For the latter: yes - the 'master' issues the challenge. I have to admit I'm not 100% comfortable with this, feeling that the ... erm ... aspirants (shall we say) should issue the challenge. However, it has to be admitted that if the 'master' were to wider their acceptance criteria to accept all such challenges, they would become inundated. I had to tighten my own some time ago on account of that happening.

The rule is based on this.

If i see a player talk somewhere or comment on something and catches my attention.
And i never had played him.her before. Then i send out a challenge called walking the walk,
Because i have noticed them to be talking the talk.

It is/was my way to determine what sort of player he/she is and how strong.

for the rule the 'master' issues the challenge well that is just to be in control of the number of games and the terms of the game.
