Description: | I have been reading so many posts that argue about minutiae. It should be possible to rise above that level. We are a bunch of amateur chess players, some better than others, who are trying to enjoy the experience of playing chess with people from all over the world. The picayune grievances and irritations that are aired in these forums are beneath our humanity and dignity. Can we raise the level of discussion to issues that are of real significance with respect to team play? I think we all know that larger teams have an advantage over smaller teams on the ladder, all other factors being equal. Active teams have an advantage over less-active teams. The road to success on the ladder should be clear to everyone. The idea that individual players should be pilloried for derelictions is absurd. Let us enjoy our true and useful role as captains and co-captains by giving the members of our respective teams good and diverse matches. When egos become invested in ladder standing or conflict with other clubs, something has gone terribly wrong and is at variance with what the gameknot experience was intended to be. |
