this a silly puzzle. in reality who playing black, would not resign and save wasted time. There must be a real factor in these examples. Not just contrived nonsense .
You miss the point. Chess problems are not supposed to be simulated game positions. Some are even positions that could not even be reached in a game. The elegance of a puzzle lies partially in how the solution includes a move that is unlikely to make your candidate move list at first blush. This puzzle meets that criteria in spades. The first move in the solution to this puzzle looks like a wasted move that lets the king escape at first glance.
A very elegant puzzle. I did not find it too hard once I realised that the key move was likely to be a queen move, leaving e2 free for his knioght and placing Black in zugzwang. The tricky part was finding the queen move that left the right squares covered, in particular the e6 square.
