Just when I was about to move 1. Kc6, I realized that that move would obstruct the a8-h1 diagonal. Great puzzle. Thanks, kingdawar.

This puzzle gets a three plus from me!
Talk about unrealistic! Why are the Kings at the wrong ends of the board? Real game? Give me a break.

Black has only one or two moves possible from the outset. And until white decides to let the black King move it has only one man to move.

If the first black move is e6 then a simple count solves the puzzle.

If the first black move is e5 then a simple count puts the white King in the position of covering the Rook.

This puzzle was a little harder than the 'easy' puzzle; however, once the board is oriented it falls into place.

Again both puzzles were no errors and no hints for a perfect solve.

BUT, this puzzle did take much longer than usual to make the first move. I took about 7 minutes before I made the first move here while in the 'easy' puzzle I took about 3 minutes.

I enjoyed this puzzle 'kingdawar'! You did a super job of putting this together! Thanks!

Chess compositions are something completely different from a normal game, they are there to show 'patterns' or 'motives' in a pure (no unnecessary pieces on the board) and beautiful form. Finding these in 'unrealistic' positions can help you (to a degree) seeing them in your normal games. Maybe you might want to spend a few minutes checking the following link, which will give you some basic knowledge about compositions and more links to explore (as always on the web):

en.wikipedia.org

Kingdawar certainly deserves credit for putting the puzzle up on GameKnot, but I don't think he would want take ownership of the puzzle at all, as he mentions where it came from:

"Composed by Vladimir Pachman, 1st Honourable Mention Die Schwalbe 1960."

Die Schwalbe is the German Chess Composition Society and their bimonthly mag is also called Die Schwalbe:

Thank you 'ctnz'
You are a great person to let others know what you and I already know!

I just wonder where the others who made comments that were out of place on previous puzzles, while letting this one go in their ignorance. I lived in Germany for 7 years studying at the University of Munich. I also played chess there with several of their better players - I usually lost, but I learned a lot about chess.

Are you going to be the fifth person in the last 30 days to ask me about my 'low' rating, while trying to suggest I do not know what I am talking about. Before you ask, my FIDE rating today is above 2200.

Don't let the losers who also post on this site fool you into thinking you are also a loser.

I now teach at the University of Colorado.

I'm baffled because the hint button doesn't work.
