thought process

The c7 knight is unguarded and attacked twice. It is also covering the escape square e5. So the solution must allow black to take the knight and cover the e5 square some other way. The other knight or the rooks cannot cover e5. That leaves the bishop. The bishop has 2 squares to try. c7 looks the best since it also covers the d6 flight square. Bd4 does not work because black can simply take the c6 knight with the bishop or the king and there is no mate next. But with the bishop on c7, if the knight is captured, white mates with either Rd3 or Be4 depending on how the knight is taken. Any other black response allows Ne7++.

another solution

down in the right hand corner of the puzzle window there is a drop down menu called "options". One of the options is "another solution". If you select this, you can try your alternate solution to see if it works. the chess analysis engine will find any flaws in your idea.

s1c4, sorry, but your "another solution" will not work because black simply plays bxc6, putting white's king in check.

I'll never understand why people who think they have an alternate solution don't try it using the "other solution" option. It has saved me a few times from getting egg on my face, and in the unlikely event that you genuinely do find another solution, your solution will be recorded for posterity. (I found one once.)
