Had to use a hint, so not sure if that's allowed but did get it anyway. Therefore wondering why such a low success rate. Once we know what is the first move to solving this puzzle it's straight forward.

This is to open.
To many variants that change it from 2 or 3 move checkmates. One example is 1. Qc6+ Ne6 2. Rf4#.

@impalpable
I assume you mean 1. Qc8+? Black replies 1. Ke4 and there is no mate.

Some people seem unable to distinguish between conventional "mate in 2" problems like this one, and "helpmate", a completely unrealistic but entertaining type of problem where both players have to cooperate in forcing a mate.

In normal mate problems, Player 1 has to effect a mate against ALL POSSIBLE RESPONSES by Player 2. It's not enough to say "If White does this and Black does that then it's mate in 2." You have to also cater for the possibility that Black does something else.
