Looking for a continuation after QxB and Rh7+, we have to notice that 1) with a B on e8 there is a rare mate configuration involving a N, a B protected by the N and a R protected by the B. But we will only consider doing that if we notice two other things: 2) That the black rook on d8 is overloaded because it has to keep an eye on d7 because of Nd7 mate if it takes the B on e8. 3) The King cannot take the B because of the N. Not easy to see all these things at the same time.

I had the right ideas for thispuzzle, but in the wrong order. I noticed early on thatthe B could safely move to e8, but could not see how to take advantage of it. There was always going to be a Q sacrifice at some point, but I expected it to be the opening move and was somewhat stumped when I found that none of those opening checks would work.

Also the temptation is for White to start checking and keep checking, to avoid being checked in return, until one examines White's position more carefully and realises that Black can gain only one move by checking.
