Took me a half minute longer because I assumed it would be a queen-sac puzzle like so many others. Once I realized that wasn't it, the answer came quickly.

Good puzzle.

If I were Paulsen, I would not have won that game because I was laughing so hard when I spotted it - the arbiter would have no doubt shot me. (That was the rule in 1847, wasn't it?)

Took me a little longer because I thought the low number of White pieces made it simpler and I thought that the pinned Bishop would play a part (tried Nc5+ first).

Lovely solution anyway, especially for a real game.

Super Puzzle
I loved this one. It had all of the elements that I respect in a puzzle: Elegance, simplicity without being obvious, under-promotion, and of course, the hero being my favorite piece.

Nice, Hughff!
The puzzle was relatively easy, and fun.

The daily puzzles have definitely improved recently.

Distractions
In old style composition problems no piece was superfluous; the the extra pieces seemed to play the role solely of a distraction trying to disguise the under promotion to knight. At first I looked at a knight check and only then noticed the possibility of a promotion - fairly rare motif. Once the existence of the possibility was apparent the answer came of itself.

rooklecour...
This wasn't a composition, it was a game continuation.

If I didn't know it was a two move mate, I never would have gotten it. Nice.

Nice puzzle
it took me a bit longer to solve a 65% solve-rate puzzle ! But still got it on the first try only after analyzing visually a good 5 minutes.

There's a game Paulsen - Blachly over here www.chessgames.com

It stops after 19. d6...
Presumably the next moves would be 19. ... Qxa1 20. Nc3 Qxf1+ 21. Qxf1 gxf4 22. Qb5+ Bb6 23. Na4 Rb8 and I believe we have the exact position as in the diagram above.
