![]() (Surprised me too, but in fairness there is a lot going on here. A nice puzzle, though since it varies already from the game on which it is based, it would have been nice for the designer to remove some of the extraneous pieces.) |

![]() Then I saw the solve rate. The way many people solve puzzles, by playing checking moves, works here. The key is to recognise that the goal of chess is to kill the king, not the Queen. Once that goal is firmly in place, 2.Bd6(check) becomes pretty obvious. I'm quite surprised the solve rate for this is substantially lower than some of the more difficult puzzles we had recently. I haven't checked, but I'm guessing more people may have tried this puzzle than some of the others. |
