![]() I am glad to be a gold life member.I do not have to worry(so far)about payment issues year after year.Although I may still leave GK,regardless...as other members may soon do,for a hundred reasons. <<I am probably the only one on GK that has been a life member 3 times!!Every 5 years(on average) a life membership option occurs. But I have not seen it yet in 2023, but it may occur soon.In between those times,I have left GK and retuned again to pay the life membership price, for a total of 3 times!I will not being doing it again, if I leave again. It’s not the $$, I can afford it, but it is the principle with site quality and other things that need more attention. When I first joined in 2005, things were different and better in many ways, even if not all the bells and whistles existed back in 2005 as they do in 2023.All is relative,I suppose.Still,GK is one of the best chess sites on the internet, even if frustrating to others!>> For me it is about the money. I could not afford a life membership the first time it was offered, but by the second time I had already paid ten years worth of dues and knew I was going to continue using the site at least ten more years. The net present value calculation for me made good economic sense. I guess a guy who can drop $100 on a Caribbean island margarita may think nothing of shelling out lifetime memberships like they were annual subscriptions, but I’d just as soon find something better to do with what little extra spending money I have, such as getting a really nice leather cowboy hat in Mexico for $80 pesos. Not quite ten dollars. That same hat easily runs $80 in the US. I come to GK for the camaraderie. I’ve made a number of friends here, some whom I’ve met in person, and others who I would enjoy meeting. I’ve always regarded Tactical Abyss as a friend. He has made incredible contributions to this site, especially with his game annotations. He has pointed out errors in my analysis I greatly appreciated, as I’m sure did the original players of those games. My big regret is that he will refuse to read this post and furiously insist I am shadowing and insulting him. Then he will delete all the posts he has made, puzzling those who come to this thread later. That’s the reason I copied what was written. You can’t get along with everyone. There are two or three people on my blocked list. These are folks who have attacked me without any provocation. Well, I might have provoke one, in a jesting manner, but the response was so completely over the top that for my own personal peace of mind I added them to the block list. I think most folks here could get away with never using that feature. I know I’m always open to dialogue with any reasonable person, and even unreasonable ones who are honest, and not just playing games. There is only one game I play here, and that of course in chess. I guess I might have played backgammon once or twice. I know gameknot hosts a few others as well. Anyway, I anticipate future readers of this forum may be puzzled by a long serious of posts by PQL following this one. They will have been about what a horrible person I am. People are free to say what they please, within the rules and boundaries we share. It is against the rules to insult or defame other players on GK, and I wouldn’t do that even if I felt I had good cause. I’m of the opinion that it is better to say nothing than something negative. But about the other users in this forum I don’t have any negative comment to make. PQL’s former account was Tactical Abyss, and he ran a great club dedicated to developing a player’s chess strategies. That combined with his many insightful annotations helped make GK the wonderful site that it is. You will find Tactical Abyss comments all over GK games, beautifully and concisely written. I would love to see more from that guy. On the other hand, nothing lasts forever. People change, and their interests evolve over time. I just know that I’ll continue being here, with my gold membership, until Elon Musk buys the site and destroys it in some insane antisemitic tirade. |

![]() I possibly should delete that and repost a corrected version, but I don’t want anyone to get the wrong impression. |

![]() Seems a bit pointless. Anyone happen to catch any of that? For now I’m Jaipur’s going to assume it was a series of ever more eloquent and grandiose personal apologies. |
