Gameknot Losing Members?

I've been a member of Gameknot for a very long time. There has always been plenty of opponents for Fast Ladder games. Lately that's not the case. I usually play 20 Fast ladder games. Now I can barely get 10 or 15 games. Hope things pick up. Thanks

GK losing "active" players

GameKnot isn't necessarily losing "members" so much as the players it already has are becoming inactive. If you go to "My stats", underneath your "chess rating" there is a "percentile" number. If you click on the percentile it will list all active players above you and how they rank (an active player is someone who finishes at least one game or more every few months).

For example my account, markb56 , says I'm in the 95th percentile of active players. If you click on my "percentile" you will find I'm ranked as 720th in the active player list. About 6-7 years ago being at the 95th percentile would place you at around 1100th top ranked player. I know this because one of my goals over the years has been to reach the 95th percentile and I would periodically check how many players were above me. So let's do the math:

Np == Number of players, 95 percentile means top 5%

6-7 years ago: Np * 5% = 1100 means that Np = 22000
Today: Np * 5% = 720 means that Np = 14400

In other words:

6-7 years ago, to be at the 95th percentile and be the 1100th top ranked player meant there were a total of 22,000 active players.

Today, to be at the 95th percentile and be the 720th top ranked player means there are now a total of 14,400 active players.

All active rated players (20+ rated games completed, seen online no more than 90 days ago):
50 per page, 292 pages.
50*292=14,600 active players. I guess that compares favorably with Mark’s calculation.

We should post a quarterly tally on this thread.

GK loosing members

Back in 2007 GK had over 320 active teams now there are 137 active teams. Makes it more of a challenge for us team captains and co-captains to assign new team matches as we try to avoid assigning our team mates duplicate matches against the same player.
Also GK had over 30000 active players around the same time now there are 14000 or so.

Advanced search only goes back 30 days. Not sure how I obtained my previous data but mine 20 games/30 days is 263 pages, or 13150 active members. Could be down for summer hiatus.
