Hello
I've played chess on this site for the last 6 years, and when ever i want to play it's Gameknot, and Gameknot is a great name and a great site no question about it... BUT, if the name has to be changed and you want to think of everybody who plays here, instead of ''ichess'', why not call it ''iplaychess'' at least that way the name would refer to EVERYONE who plays on the site..

How about iLoveChess? But then this might get confused with iLoveCheese, so maybe it's not such a good idea.

I love cheese is pretty good too. I'd play chess at that site.
To bad it is already taken: www.ilovecheese.com

gameknot
I like Gameknot. It's simple to remember and is one of the best sites on line. Why mess up a good thing by changing the name.

Gameknot
That is all I know and that is what I tell my friends if they want to play a game with me.
I have heard of chess colony but never play there even though it is a mirror site.

a different proposal?
How about a little deviation from the name change matter. How about starting a pool for members to guess exactly when Gameknot reaches the milestone "one millionth" member. Obviously it's only a matter of a few months. Winner gets a free year or two of premium membership or something. I duuno, just a thought. I notice everyday how fast membership burgeons. 1,000,000 will be a bit monumental. No other site can boast that, not for quite a while. [another website] will someday (maybe) but Gameknot will be the first because it's superior to all.

I think about 350 new accounts per day are registered, so it will take some time.

Keep original name
Please, keep the original name. It is easy to remember and it has good reputation. Also the web address is easy to remember and it would be harmful if address and the name of the side are not in accordance.

As far as I'm concerned "gameknot" is now synonymous with chess. Everyone I've ever referred to the site has had no problem remembering the name. If you start using something like xyzchess.com everyone will remember the chess part and then get stuck on the other stuff. Now if you come up with a fancy name and keep gameknot I have no objections. I can see the marketing reasons you might have but I'm happy with gameknot.

Combine with icon
New name should be combined with a wonderful website icon, then you can even call the site "gorillachess.com" or something like that.

Six months later, chesspeak.com sounds like a decent name to me

no no Can't change your mind now~already got a slogan.
"Play at Gorilla where Chess is a thrilla! " }8-)

Then again, there is Chessapeak-Bay !? if its not taken yet ...
[ Or the catchy "c-Bay". hmmm. Nah, too primitive to ever catch on ]

Is this still being considered? I would not change it, but if you feel it's necessary....ChessKnot would be my choice.

I believe ...
that the new blitz v2 area is using ichess s.ichess. (as I just noticed during a recent session of sorting naughty from nice for my pc. These are of course nice places)

As long as you don't change it to KnotChess.

I don't think Gameknot really sells the website to potential customers very well, so it does seem to make sense to change it. You shouldn't lose any current members because of a rebranding and a new name may help bring in new players.

However, the google search 'online chess' already brings up GK as the first result and is preceded by the statement, 'Play Chess Online'...so maybe it wouldn't make that much difference afterall. I expect most people here would have either heard of it through a friend, or by typing in a similar search into google.

Whatever they change the name to,it really dosen't matter to me.I suppose the word "chess"should be in it somewhere, but in reality,I do not agree that the present name is in any way "losing"potential customers or losing present members. If what heinzkat says above is true...."I think about 350 accounts per day are registered"....then that is certainly a great number of chess players coming to the site,2,450 a week! There is no real evidence that simply using ichess or some other name will suddenly surge in 600 new accounts a day or something like that.I think the name change is simply to dust off the cobwebs and try something different and new for a change. If we were called...."rottenchess","badchess"or"inferiorchess" it still would not slow down the influx of registered players(in my opinion)with the search engines and more. The best sites are always at the top like GK is,no matter what the name will be changed to,and players would recognize it based upon quality, site options and cost...not any name change whatsoever. What drew me to this site was the pure quality over other chess sites, strength of the players and even the way I can set up my profile. If the name of this site was sac696yahryevesktxx2&%$! i'd still be here and not even questioning the name!

I would take sac696yahryevesktxx2&%$!, before I would ichess, please...anything but ichess? Whatever they decide I hope they keep "knot" in the title. I consider chess positions something like a complex knot...you have to THINK your way through it.

tybroted,
Funny enough, you brought up something regarding a name or perhaps a "logo" that reminds me of a business success I witnessed years ago. There was a restaurant in my area that had a big sign posted on a high pole outside that read..."home of the WORSE coffee in town"!
Do you know that that restaurant sold MORE coffee than anyone in my town?Yes,its true! And in reality, they had the BEST coffee in town!People actually came to the restaurant to try the coffee!Reverse pyschology that worked!Hmmmmm...maybe "badchess" would work in the same way!Food for thought.

Chrome problems with Gamekonot.com
Hi,

I discovered that Chrome has been working purely on Gameknot.com in a chess game. First the
right most part of the page intruded on the middle part. Now the players do not move correctly.

Any comments on that?

Chrome...
Javanalle,

I play only on Chrome. I do not have any problems. Please try to clear any temporary browser
data or similar items.

Well this string is mainly about name changes, and i'm glad it was kept the same name...GK.

As to chrome or whatever other new server toys are out there,I will stick with IE forever.Never had a problem, never will. But constantly hear of others having problems with new toys.Alot of times its your own system giving you problems however.Lately,my GK page wasn't loading for near 2 minutes!Couldn't figure it out.Called my computer expert nephew. He told me my security setting(AVG)was slowing the loading of my GK page down and he went ahead and bypassed the AVG security on GK only.Problem solved. So it wasen't IE as another person told me.

if it aint broke, dont fix it. i am a strong believer in that.

i assume you are looking at changing the name to get more people to join gameknot.com? i would of thought that as the site is so good, and by far the best chess site around, the numbers will go up as we, the current subscribers, spread the word?

number 5, gameknot.com for me!
