I really don't care, other than that I do think the Team Captains and Co-Captains should enable the light, because otherwise they never appear on the Team captains currently online -list.

I tend to hide my status....
....and here's why:

A) The absolute most annoying thing (at least for me) is for that damn message light to start blinking while I'm trying to evaluate a position. It distracts me. Perhaps the system could be tweaked for incoming messages to *blink* ONLY on the 'My Games' screen.

I have a serious GameKnot addiction, and have played a few games here. I also tend to play very quickly. People see my name on the list, then see my avg time/move, and figure I'm good for a one-sitting game (which I usually am). So I get challenged a lot. Then, if I am fortunate enough to get an advantage, I get slow-played. I hate that. I would prefer to have never started those games.

C) I am a 'C' player OTB, and maybe a 'B' player on GameKnot. I have never claimed to be anything else. Yet people read my annotations and feel it is a moral imperative to correct my mistakes or make comments in private mesages that are not always nice. My ex-wife was like that, and that's why she is my ex.

D) I am also a team captain, and my team has been around a looooong time. I usually have a challenge or two waiting every time I fire up the PC. Couple that with every new team out there wanting to play an older team, and the light blinks uncontrollably (see A). I don't dislike team challenges (or the process) - I just tend to prefer challenges with the established teams. Newer team captains are constantly wanting to chat. I really am a big teddy bear, but the sheer number of totally ridiculous messages I get is annoying. So I hide my status.

E) Not to be repetitive, but if my light being off bothers my opponent, then advantage tag1153.

F) It is EXTREMELY rare that I make serious comments in forums (this being one). I tend to be sophmoric and go for a cheap laugh. Other than responding on whatever particular thread I post on, people once again feel the need to contact me directly to either laugh or critcize. Those messages pile up, and I would rather not spend my time responding to them all (I *do* try to respond to everyone who messages me.)

G) As leader of the GameKnot underworld, it is imperative that I stay as secretive as possible.

I am searching the net, I use my word excel autocad photoshop e-mail skype and all these that someone does with his computer.

so if you see the geen dot and make no move, does this annoying you more or if you play several moves with a guy hidden online?

There should be an option ...
First a green light. Next (green print) I am only Logged to annoy You. Second (green neon) "Am I gettin to you yet?" Adds itself again every ten minutes ...   Sometime between 3rd and 7th light check ... Manical Laugh. And ever after ...
