Thx. Great to know, it is getting right "up there" with some other online d-bases.

Too bad it won't sort by Player Name/Nik, or Position. But maybe that would make it too easy ?! Might be good it is now a bit of work to play thru, & see if anyone has "busted" some variation that shows an 80% Win rate, or such. So it remains a tool for "he who works hardest", as it is now.

A comment re Status of GK Home Page ...
FANTASTIC~! After the additions that were made to it. And the "MORE", "and EVEN MORE" choices. I like it very much, as it stands now.

November 2011: Mobile version
Introducing the mobile version of GameKnot optimized for handheld devices with smaller screens (i.e. iPhones, Android phones, etc.). It can be accessed via: m.gameknot.com Please note that because it's a smaller and lighter version of our website, it doesn't have all the features present on the main website.

Mobile version???
This is my first post on a forum so please bear with me
I don't mean to contradict you or anything but I read somewhere just last month where they won't be supporting a mobile version of GK. I'll try to find it so you'll know what I'm talking about. I think it was in the FAQ or something like that. If you don't mind asking where do you get your information? Do you work for GK?

Jeremy

An addition !?
Please pardon if this was mentioned last year or such, for I only just noticed:

When I write myself a Personal Message now, and click to make it go to the e-mail (actually g-mail for me) address that GK has on file for me, I notice I now have the option to Answer Myself~! ... just by clicking a single hyperlink which comes with the message. The link brings me to the PM Editor Page where my own message to myself was created. [ Or maybe it brings me to a generic screen of the same page, which just happens to be mine, because I happen to be Me ?! Well I'm not sure about that part. But it sure beats the old way, which simply said that we could not reply to the sender from our own e-mail since the return address was then for a GK Robot I believe. Or something like that ...]

I really like this option. So easy, convenient. Can anyone tell me, or volunteer to receive a PM from me to their e-mail; so we can find out more about how the reply link & screen work?

For instance:
* Is it any different for FREE MEMBERs, than Premium Members?
* Is it any different between various levels of Prem. memberships? (EG, might a Platinum allow a check box there which would send it to a whole team when reply made? Or to list any CC of reply being sent; or to Forward the PM we got, onto others ... teammates or whatever?
* If we Do Use that Reply Link, then must we check the e-mail box there again, or will the reply coming from us automatically send it to their e-mail as well as GK Messages page?
* What IF we are not LOGGED ON here when we click that hyperlink ? Do we get asked to do so because it cannot ID us? Or do we get a generic guest-like screen page to use? (which i don't see how would work, unless it simply included a copy of the original message in our reply to first sender?

* And finally ... any other Questions or Info about this from anyone ? Directly below are the Links it gives to ME. The second is simply the unhyper address of same page.

It seems I can answer some of my own Questions now ....
First I sent a baronderkilt to baronderkilt with e-mail option also checked.

Rec's that in my g-mail. Clicked reply hyperlink and it took me to the editing screen we use whenever writing to anyone, it seems.
********************************
#2 I sent a reply From that Edit page. The e-mail too option was not clicked when the screen appeared to me. Yet it did send my reply to both the GK Messages Page and his (my) g-mail address. BUT it differed from the first I e-mailed to me, in these ways:

* Instead of showing Sender as baronderkilt, it showed the sender as being "Gameknot Chess" with the actual URL of <service@gameknotDOTcom> given as the origin router. And it offered the reply as this GameknotDOTcom/messagesDOTpl rather than being from me back to me. Saying to click that link to view my whole MESSAGES page; and said I could not reply from the e-mail just recieved, as it always had been in the past.

* It ALSO gives an UNSUB hyperlink in this case. Although it did not offer that when it showed baronderkilt as sender the first time. For which it actually used a GK page url that assigned the first sending a SENT MESSAGE NUMBER belonging to baronderkilt (whether that is always my SENDER Page's Number, or changes with every message I send, I dont know? )

Message from GameKnot customer support:
Hello, tag1153,

The date when each player joined the team is now available when you click on
"Manage team members" link. You can also click on the column's header/title to
sort by that column (click again to reverse the sorting order).

Thank you for choosing GameKnot as your premier chess battlefield!

In response to your inquiry submitted on 29-Dec-11, 20:16 Subject: Team member longevity
Happy New Year Mike! (and to your minions as well

Thought I would get the jump on the new year with an odd request - is it possible to list somewhere the dates on which players join a team? My team (Southern Chess) has been around for quite a while now. I took over my first year on GK. We have had up to around 60 members at times, but after some humorous political infighting we have trimmed down to the very core of our team. Roughly two dozen guys who each carry the same weight as far as team participation (in discussions, in team events, and of course in playing team games). I would like to recognize them by seniority in a new team theme I'm kicking around. Hopefully you (or above mentioned minion) have at one time or another wondered aloud - "Are those guys whackjobs, or what?" I feel as an old time captain it is incumbent on me to change things up, try new themes periodically, and keep them laughing. That is SC. We really don't care any more about team games than any other games. We're a social team. Most of us are related to or have personally met several others (I've met seven). These guys will flip if I start handing out seniority candy. Any chance of getting that info? Too much work? Regardless of your answer, GAMEKNOT RULES!

Has this been mentioned ?! I just noticed it . . .
gameknot.com

It is now possible to initiate a game with someone who is not a current GK member, without them needing to even start an account; neither free nor premium.

I don't understand how it is going to work. But did send a game offer to someone's e-mail and hope to see what transpires.

The option has been around since at least July 2009, when I experimented with a couple of friends. As far as I
am aware they seemed to have access to all the features available to a non-paying member.

Just a minor change I noticed that only concerns a few....
For the GK life members like me,when I checked my expiration date,it use to say..."never".
Now it says...."when account is closed".I'm not sure when that was changed but it couldn't have been a very long time.Basically the same meaning, but for some reason I liked the word "never"better!Sounds more "infinite"to me!

One thing for sure, however, and this may not be known by all members whether paying, free or life members....
Your account could end up closed if you do not atleast log on once a year to GK.If I remember correctly, thats what GK told me.You do not have to play any games, but log on once in a while to play it safe.So if you plan to be away for a very long time or do not play or log on to GK for a year or more, even a life member could end up having his/her account closed....and that would be awful! When I click on IE,my homepage is GK and i'm already logged in,so that keeps things in the active state, whether I play or not.

open Analyze boards from My Games page
It would be nice to open Analyze boards from the My Games page, instead of having to open the game page for each game, then the Analyze boards, then close the game pages, then go back to the Analyze boards.

The game pages are a little finicky. Sometimes I have just clicked a square thinking it was the Analyze board, then clicked off the game page, looked later and the game page had made the move on it's own without me clicking "submit." I have to click "reset" every time before clicking off the game pages, another redundancey, otherwise this can happen, which has happened to me 4 times already.

A search feature for the forum would be helpful.

a few more ideas
Applying the rating formula to Average Move Time for the last 20 games completed would make it more accurate and helpful, instead of just the last 100 moves.

Showing the number of thread "views" would be nice.

Show hours and minutes remaining when there area less than 3 hours remaining to move.

Has anyone made a comment on the new twitter or facebook sign up links now appearing below your game lists?I don't plan to join either facebook,or twitter,or vote...so it dosen't matter to me.My opinion,is that the clickable boxes of these things..."thumb likes" and other boxes should be a bit lower than right below the click options of "postpone games","stats profile","ignore list"ect.I accidently clicked on them or almost clicked on them more than once.Perhaps another location such as a full inch below the other click options or below the "more options"link would be better. It also seems to me to take just a small bit "longer"for my GK page to "fully load" with these new "like" and twitter click links. They appear at the end of the live page loading sequence while seemingly to me to be slowing down the actual loading page by perhaps 2 or 3 seconds. Not a major inconvenience, but an observation.

Shamash....
Well, truthfully,I wish I could! But I don't think its possible! But,perhaps those links are some kind of profit margin for GK with the advertising?Although,if that is true, then,of course as far as I see it,paying members should not be seeing anykind of advertising which theoretically facebook or twitter is on a GK page!?Yes,no,maybe?Incorrect?Correct?

Well, thats all i'm going to say on this subject.I once had an account on facebook and had gotton(like some others)a computer virus that was somehow attached to another persons link in the facebook. While this can happen in alot of places,it has happened quite frequently to alot of my coworkers as well...so I closed my facebook account.Plus,i'm more of a private person and do not openly chat social things on prying eyes or eyes that can telegraph everything to a hundred other people.Chess forums are not nearly the same thing,so I do not mind.

Sending messages to all teammates
This feature has disappeared for me. Anyone else?
Gameknot.com
17-Jul-12, 09:23

Please use the team forum for posting any messages intended for the entire team (click on "Teams" in the main menu). By default, everyone in the team is notified when there is a new post in the team forum (optionally can be turned off by each player) -- so it has exactly the same effect as sending a private message to everyone, but it produces much lower impact on the servers. The problem with sending a private message to the entire team is that we have to send a separate private message to each team member, which often avalanches out of control when the team has many members (replies, etc.). Plus, it's not possible to "unsubscribe" from such team-wide private messages (short of placing the person on one's ignore list). And it often triggered our internal "spam" protection for newer players (we automatically prevent newer players from sending private messages to many different players at the same time to protect everyone from spam).

Are team members who are NOT subscribing members to GK able to view team forums? Thx for the rapid response btw......

What about the option for premium members to enable/disable those Facebook/Twitter plugins?
Gameknot.com
17-Jul-12, 10:14

@tag1153 Yes, anyone can read the team forum (only if they are a member of the team though of course).

@kingdawar We are not entirely convinced it is necessary. So far, the initial few complaints can be summed up as "I personally don't use it, so please remove it". If we had an option for removing each individual feature on GameKnot because it might not be useful for every player, we would need twice as many servers and you would need an hour to scroll down to the bottom of the settings page.

annoying FB and TW links
Add me to the great majority who find the FB and twitter links extremely annoying, feel they have no place on a site about chess - especially where members have paid to not see ads - and would like them removed.

I didn't respond to this before as it seems kind of obvious.
