Edit Buttonposting, just as we can edit our own chess puzzles? I see Baron added a comment in another thread to 'edit a word' in his previous post. How much simpler to just hit the Edit button? I'm sure something most of us have experienced, after carefully reading through the preview of our post, a glaring mistake or some awkward syntax jumping right at us after we have pushed the 'Post Now!' button. Then we have choices to make. We can delete the comment (and for ever and a day it shows just that). We can suffer the embarrassment and leave it as is. We can post a correction below (which still highlights the lexical faux pas). Or we can just hit the Edit button - I wish. Believe it or not, it a world of txt msg language, there are still those of us who appreciate well-written communications. Personally, I feel the exclamation mark on the 'Post Now!' button is the cause of many mistakes in messages. It seems to have a magnetic effect on my mouse, and it appears to encourage you to post before you can possibly change your mind. Go on! Go on! Hit it! Don't worry about that spilling mistake!!! |

Hmmm [ I guess knowing six different ways the name has been spelled, still does not make one Shakspeer. BTW as long as we're name dropping, I Have been to HIS HOUSE. He wasn't in ... but they Did invite me back ! ] Thx for the reply GameknotDOTcom ! |

Fair enough GKI guess it would be difficult to implement, but what about a button which remains active for 15 mins after posting, just to fix those glaring mistakes? thekingni ... dream on, 'too much like Bobby'! Baron... Yes, I agree. When someone systematically goes through a thread and deletes all their posts it does interrupt the flow a little. Thanks for all the replies. |

On the contrary, I would argue that implementing this feature might even make the Forums easier to read, because currently with the message deletion being the only way one is able influence their past posts, we're having threads with several back-to-back messages from the same user, with all but the very last one deleted. This inflates the post count of all threads, and makes the discussion more difficult to follow. If we had the possibility to edit the past posts, the user could just edit the first one, and there would be no need for repeated posting. That said, I realize that these Forums are not among the core features of GK. Its a correspondence chess website, and if not developing the forum software further means that the team has more time to work on the chess features, then I'm totally fine with that. But considering how active these Forums are, I'd think that many people would appreciate an update for the software that is arguably obsolete. Regards, MaCa. |
