new option: challenge to a match?
what you GK,s player think about add an option where you can challenge a player to a match.

it would be like playing 2,4,6,8 or 10 games with the same player, alternating white and blacks.

if the opponent accepts the challenge he would be compromise to play all the games mandatory (like a
tournament)

you can also have the option of play it: 1,2 or 4 games at the same time

I like the idea ...
Of course you can set things up that way now, if you know your opponent in advance. But it is a lot more cumbersome to do it all manually, rather than a simple set up option.

With that thought, I wonder if you can set it up as an ivitational mini-tournament where you and your opponent are the only players allowed in it. And showing up multiple times on the crosstable. Once for each pair of games.

Really I dont know if it will permit a player to double-book into a tourney tho, and it is still more work than a match application. For which, it would also be nice if it could be placed in the Join Game area as a match to be accepted be anyone qualifying for the terms, whatever they might be.

Good idea.
I like the idea. I don't see myself wanting to challenge a stranger to more than 2 games at a time (I would be open to challenging, or being challenged, to subsequent 2 game matches by a stranger, should the play be exciting). Too much risk for one party or the other to get bored halfway through. However with friends, such matches would be fun. Maybe allow open challenges that are be limited to two games, but specific challenges can have the options you describe.

yes!!!!
I proposed it a year ago to gameknot with a message to them...no answer so I think they does not find it a good idea

Huvawa. Interesting. And very unusual here. Then how about ...
We could all ask them again ... to at least see if it is on the planning chart? [Like the great blitz upgrades were, and did finally come thru, and were fantastic & nearly trouble free ... as is most everything they program here!] .

I sent a message now, asking them, and linking to this thread. Perhaps Gamknot Com will respond here too. That would be cool.

Dear GKcom, we were wondering [in the forum thread below], if there might be an upgrade in the planning stage, that would allow a player to offer a Match Challenge & specify a given number of games for it, etc. As mentioned by the Original Poster of this thread? Thank You !

I will check the FAQ's first to make sure it is not mentioned already, also. If it is, I will notify everyone here of that by a link to the FAQ, & this message would not be sent, naturally.

i think if a lot of players like the idea, they should at least consider it

baronderkilt
thanks for sending the message to GK.hope they will look here on the forum.I think this can not be so difficult for them to realize it.

It could even serve to earn mini-points in some kind of match competition etc.

We receive a great number of comments and suggestions every month, and I do believe this has been
suggested before as well. We do appreciate every comment and suggestion we get, however as you probably
realize we cannot implement every single one of them right away. Our dev team's to-do list contains literally
about a dozen years worth of work, and that's even without general maintenance and optimization tasks, that
we have to do routinely to make sure the website runs smoothly. If you don't see your suggestion appear on
the website, it doesn't mean it wasn't good or that it was rejected. There is a number of factors in play when
deciding what goes live next, and a good number of them have nothing to do with how good the suggestion
was -- we have to consider interdependencies (i.e. feature A cannot be implemented until features B and C
are in place, and feature C is in turn dependent on features D and F, etc.), impact on the server load (i.e. if a
feature is brilliant, but will likely bring the whole website to a crawl, we have to wait until we can optimize
relevant parts of the code to make it work), simple priorities (i.e. it'll only take half a day to implement a
particular feature, but it's not as important as another feature that's already being implemented and that's
going to take another month to finish, but that feature is dependent on another feature that's going to take 6
months to implement, so in the end the half-a-day-worth-of-work feature ends up taking nearly a year to go
live). All we can ask is that please be patient with us — we work as fast as we can.

In the meanwhile, you can use "Rivals" link to get a personal tally against your past opponent's, or you can
simply click on the player's user name to see your personal score against that player (and if you click on that,
you'll get the detailed list of past games against said player).

Easy shot
I agree with gameknot on this one. Despite the feature proposed by donfernando (and
previously at least by huvawa) being cool, the site has to give priority to such "cool
features" that cannot be implemented manually (or that would be to burdensome if done so).
Moreover, some features require the addition of other features, which makes it sensible to
wait until a whole package of them is ready. Examples: Conditional moves (impossible to do
manually), tournament creation (burdensome to do manually). And game notes? It is true that
these can be kept in a simple sheet of paper, but keeping a whole archive is somewhat more
difficult. In any case, game notes were not created until a new disposition of the board was
implemented, although I am sure lots of players recommended it before.

About the feature itself, I have said it sounds positive already. However, I do not see myself
accepting a 8-match against a player I don't know, and if I know the player no real
commitment is needed, I know I'll play against him some other time. It would be useful to me in
cases of 2 games at a time (sometimes I am challenged as black and I'd like to get a chance
to play the stranger as white too), but this can be done simply by making the acceptance of
the challenge you are issued conditional to the acceptance of a challenge you issue yourself
(with reversed colours). If you are the one issuing the challenge, just start two games instead
of 1. Of course that requires that you/your opponent have two physical/mental game slots
available.

Question: how would the implementation of this feature work? Like tournaments do currently
but with only two players (i.e. games start automatically and there is a right of withdrawal)?

PS: Just to add a thing I have notice would be cool too (again, not with top priority):
What about creation of unrated tournaments?

unrated tournaments yes, match challenges no.
Totally agree with Héctor on both counts.
