Just became a premium member!
ad im still figuring out some of the new options... and I was wondering what are the benefits of joining a chessteam?

I already joined a club also wondering what can be done in a club aswell(reson I joined was because I got a invite a while ago so I figured I'd check it out) but I can't realy find anything what you can do in those clubs/teams

The main advantage is the number of games you can play. I think leagues can only be played by premium members. Tourneys used to be that way though they have relaxed that in recent months

But it is mainly the number of games and some players will only challege or accept challeges from paying mebers

I hope that helps

The benefits include the number of games you can play, the number of tournaments you can compete in, access to the ladder and league play, gameknot.com computer analysis, the ability to join clubs, and the feeling that you are supporting one of the best chess sites on the internet.

not asking for the benefits of premium but the benefit for joining a team.

I joined a team but I'm going to finish off my last game and then quit the team.

I'm really not sure what the point of 'teams' are here - teams generally set each other up so that when you challenge another team you can only play somebody of a similar rating to yourself. So statistically (although over-simplified as I am ignoring draws), every team game has a 50% chance of a win and 50% chance of a loss. So apply this to all the games in a challenge between two teams, and the outcome is statistically random, and 'working as a team', or improving your own play makes no difference whatsoever - if you improve your rating you will just be assigned high rated opponents.

As such I struggle to see the point of the 'team ladder' and 'team league', when they are simply based on a bunch of random results.

I have noticed others report on occasion (and I'm not saying this is very common) about players who presumably due to this statistical randomness, try to find an edge in the form of cheating - ie they deliberately lose non-team games to keep their rating down, so that when they play team games against opponents with a similar 'real' rating to their own artificially lowered rating, they have a much improved chance of winning.

Teams do seem quite popular though, so I guess some people get something out of it.

The unwritten word,now written....
There are other benefits in becoming a premium member on GK.
One of the things not mentioned,is that the "ad banners"disappear and the GK loading speed is faster. How much faster,i'm not sure, but it is more efficient for sure. That alone,is worth paying a fee.The other thing is well, shall I say, more of a psychological benefit. Its the firm belief of some of the "wise guru's"(like me!)on this site, that when you support GK financially and become a premium member, that your voice may very well be given more attention to with regards suggestions, change,
improvements and more as compared to a "free member",who technically does NOT really carry the same weight in various issues. Now why would that be?Answer:The free members are just that....getting something for free,so take what you get buddy...and don't complain!Yes,I know all the excuses,like...."I cannot afford the cost, ect ect".Well, fine, you cannot pay,but then, don't complain or expect the good silverware to be handed to you on a white linen cloth! You get the plastic fork and the burger,I deserve the steak! Its really DUE to the premium members(not the freeloaders)that this site can improve let alone survive in the first place...through financial support of course!Infact,if I was the owner,I would force everyone, say after 6 months of "freeloading",to pay or leave after their games are finished. But thats my opinion, not necessarily the next guys opinion....and certainly not the "freeloaders"opinion!Thats why I laugh to myself when I see some free member wanting this feature and that bell and whistle improved or they want faster customer service to answer their problems...ect ect.Really? So a free member should be listened to and given equal rights to a good paying, supportive member?I think not! So,yes,I believe that not in all cases, but in many cases the premium member is listened to and given rightfully more consideration in various issues, atleast in a psychological sense.

As to teams, well,i'm not involved in that,I only select specific opponents when and how I choose under an electron microscope. So teams, while a fine thing to be involved with,is not my cup of tea.
