postponement issues
I understand that in real life things happen. However, these are just games. I see no reason for the postponement option to even be allowed. I've been on this site for over two years, and have never needed to postpone once, nor have I ever "timed out".

I just don't get it.

I currently have an end game that is going to take some time to complete - and since I got the advantage (rook, bishop vs rook) my opponent used a postponement - and I'm supposed to just wait? How hard is it to check the status of your games right after you check your e-mail, once or twice a day?

postponement
some of us have a life and or other things to do.
if i have invested a lot into a game then why shouldnt i postpone rather than lose out the chance to play on.
if a game is postponed or delayed then just get on with something else

It is hardly fair to assume that everyone is in the same position as oneself. We would probably all love to play chess every day without interruptions, however unfortunately life often gets in the way (work, school, kids, family, health, etc. etc.). Also, checking e-mail isn't quite the same as playing a game of chess -- it takes quite a bit more of thinking time and a different level of mental focus (well, most of the time).

Of course people have other issues and priorities
which is 100% acceptable , holidays work etc. but what i still can't understand (which can happen a lot ) is why i player as soon as he is getting beat can move in all his other games but not ours ?

Yes he could Analise the board to death , checking every avenue , or could it be that some players do not like getting beat by so-called inferior players ?
Which i don't understand as what is there to gain we do not play for money , and they should learn from each game which is priceless!!!

cancel it
I think i am right in saying that under GK rules if your opponent postpones and continues to play then you can cancel the postponement.

I fully understand that some games are more complicated, with various decision trees (if you're a brute force hack kind of player) to filter through - the best move may not be so clear after 30 seconds.

However, if there are only 5 pieces left on the board, and you only have your king and a rook, the other guy has a bishop, rook and a king, it shouldn't take very long to figure out where to move. I understand that some folks get busy - what I don't understand is why they get busy at the end game when they're down on material. A postponement is fine for a casual game. But for a tournament, there shouldn't be one. That's just my opinion - pretty much worthless. But, I've expressed it and I feel better.

new postponement disallowed by website
I postponed my games thinking it would not take effect immediately but it did. I desired to postpone a week from last saturday but apparently I can't do that. So I had to cancel postponement in every game individually because I don't want to postpone until this coming saturday. Do I have to wait until friday to postpone again or can I set up a future postponement? I would have done that originally but I couldn't figure out how to advance postponement. Anyone have advice on this?
