A Chess Idea...The Stem Game
Chess is an interesting game and it is easy to see how people can become intoxicated with it. A while ago I wrote a piece about conducting post mortems after playing a chess game and while thinking about it I stumbled across an idea (actually I was in the shower when I thought about it...call it multi-tasking).

I mentioned how ‘key moments’ should be examined while playing over your game. I don’t expect Gameknot to follow up on this idea as I think it would be too difficult to set up but here goes anyway.

Supposing you could request other players to help you play out certain variations from the key moments in your ‘stem game’. The ratings would not come into play as they are aiding you in analyzing alternate scenarios that could have come up in your game. They could very well learn some things themselves in taking part in the process. What I like about this idea is that it would in still a sense of camaraderie among everyone involved, something chess players could profit from I think. Maybe even have a discussion about the different ideas that come up afterwards. It might be a good idea to have these stem games looked at with other players around or a little above your rating to keep things on an equal footing and smooth out your learning curve, in other words you would slowly progress in your chess ability. When dealing with players around your own strength it would even out the playing field and I think it would improve upon the give and take in the analysis.

I think it would be a very interesting chess experience for everyone. I invite others to make further suggestions about this idea.
