I'm going to cancel my membership If I am not contacted soon! Serious bug freezing my browser.

I hate to put this on the forums, but it seems you have removed any way to contact a real person. The recent changes made to move animation seem to be completely freezing my iPhones browser (safari). Not just that but the entire phone hangs and I have to restart it. Please show me how to disable this "feature" or fix this bug. I enjoy my gameknot but its becoming a hassle to play with this recent change.

Contacting customer support

Either I am completely missing it, or you have no option to actually contact customer support. The link that claims to be customer support is actually just an FAQ page, which doesn't answer my question.

I did type my question and then a scrolled down and clicked the link about contacting them directly. Unfortunately, I was then brought back to the same FAQ query page.

It's maybe all becoming a bit too techhy and flashy rather than just designed to work properly yes, it's just a chessboard so save the bells and whistles

Exactly! Or at least give me the chance to disable the features that are causing my iPhone to lock up...very rarely has an app caused me to have to restart my phone - especially multiple times in the same day.

That does seem to be a little smoother....I'm usually hesitant to try those mobile sites, but game knots looks pretty nice...just kidding about canceling my subscription...wouldn't dream of it!..

I believe the mobile version of the site has the old and stable "legacy" chessboard setting

kingjames73, We regularly test GameKnot with the latest versions of the 4 most popular web browsers: Chrome, Firefox, IE and Safari; on multiple platforms: Windows, Android and iPhone/iPad; and we are not aware of any serious issues like you are describing. Furthermore, we haven't made any significant changes to the chess board code, or the move animation you've mentioned in particular.

It has been possible to replay the past moves (animated) for a very long time, using the corresponding buttons to the left of the chess board, or by clicking on any moves to the right of the chess board. The only recent change regarding move animation is that the last move is replayed automatically. From the technical side, it is really no different from the user replaying the last move manually, which has been possible for a very long time now, without any issues.

Also, the fact that your entire iPhone freezes suggests that the issue isn't with GameKnot at all. All modern web browsers are specifically designed to prevent any of the web pages from crashing, freezing or restarting your computer/iPhone/etc. no matter what the page might be trying to do. For obvious reasons, including to protect the user from malicious websites. Try clearing the web browser cache, make sure both your operating system and your web browser are fully updated to the latest version. If your iPhone still freezes, it might be a sign of a deeper issue with the operating system, or something else you have installed that is interfering, or the phone's hardware failing, or even malware or a virus. Unfortunately it would not be possible to diagnose these issues remotely.

kingdawar, We hate flashiness for the sake of flashiness as much as anyone else. Chess is a much deeper game than many others, and can be easily ruined by bells and whistles getting in the way. The last move animation is related to the new real-time updates feature -- when your opponent makes a move, it is instantly shown on the board if you are connected to the same board/game. In our testing however, we found that it's useful and convenient to do the same for all games, even when the opponent isn't connected. In fact, we found that a lot of players manually replay the last few moves to refresh their memory as to how the game was progressing, so that they can remember their plan of attack/defense/etc..

The mobile version of GameKnot (m.gameknot.com) runs the exact same code as the main website. The only difference is the layout of the pages and how some of the information is presented (or not presented at all, since mobile devices generally have much smaller screens).

Thanks for your response, gameknot. Though the underlying code is the same, I do seem to get consistently better performance from the mobile page on my iPhone. I suppose you're just using a different CSS file or something for the mobile site, so that shouldn't matter. You are probably right in that its my iPhone (version 4 by the way) that is having the problem, and the fact that only gameknot has ever crashed my phone, requiring a restart, is purely an unfortunate coincidence. Thanks for your quick response and I look forward to and enjoy your mobile site.
