Chat in games - can it be deleted and is it visible after the game is finished?
Probably silly question, sorry, I am perhaps tired (here is 01.50 AM now), but I cannot find some chat messages in a game, and I can't remember the name of the player. it is also possible that the game has been finished - and now there is the question "is the chat of past games lost?"

And, the first question - in the game in process, can a player delete old chat message?! I am pretty sure there was some chat with a player, and chat space is empty.

Just for the record, nothing bad was in the chat, don't think anything, it's just curiosity or more likely irritation over weak memory of mine that I can't find it and I am sure it was there.

Yes and Yes
My experience has been that you can delete chat messages.
If there are any chat messages when the game is ended, they are available (for how long I don't know) on the "Chat" tab between the "Captures" and "Notes" tabs.
Hope this helps.

Follow up
When I deleted a chat message recently, it showed up in the chat log after the game was over as an empty message with an "edited" tag on it.

Thanks
Ok, now I do see small print - "click on comic book cloud in order to change your previous comment(s)". So player can edit his own comments indeed, but can he erase opponent's answers if they occurred?

In past game history, though, I cannot see chat nor captures (moves) and notes either, but it would probably have been too much to save all that in archive.

I really don't know why it bothers me so much

In-game chat messages (game comments) are automatically deleted 40 days after they've been posted. So all game comments will be deleted for games ended more than 40 days ago.

A player can edit (or delete) any of their own game comments. Both of the players in the game can also clear the entire chat at any time (but not edit or delete individual comments made by their opponent). Hope this helps.

Chat is Only Visible
to the players themselves--same as the log, which I think is also purged after 40 days. The difference being that (I believe) the entire chat is preserved until 40 days after the game ends, whereas the log is only good for the preceding 40 days. The log might be less.

A maximum of 100 messages are preserved during a game (or, such is my experience). The 101st message will knock out the 1st message.
Some of my games are against GK friends and the messages can get that high (or higher) in some games.

I think the moves and chat tabs are "on top of each other" normally, and you can toggle between which one is visible. I think they will be on the right hand side of your board.

However, there is a symbol that looks like a folder in each of these tabs... you can use this to move a tab to a different location, then you would be able to have both moves and chat visible at the same time... when you apply this, it does it for all of your games, and if you move the chat back to its default position, it will do so in all of your games (I think).
