![]() in order for you to place a few words or a phrase and then a list would come up identifying the location of similar topics throughout the years? This way you could "zero in"on that topic without doing a massive search through many forum posts?A time saver indeed.Unless I am missing that somewhere? |

![]() There once was “social chat” forum but that was closed years ago in favor of clubs which are more restricted in the sense that you need to join them as opposed to just freely commenting on whatever topic pops up in a forum. I think the focus has always been on playing chess. Just my two cents CK999 |

![]() But I know for sure that there WAS a forum search blank space bar for general and specific chess related forums and it was not the "social chat" your writing about.I was here in 2005 as well, but just under a different account and handle name in 2005.I remembered being able to type in a word or phrase in the blank space bar and a series of different older posts popped up,sometimes a big list of related forum subjects which you could then scroll down and pick from. It may not be a priority as you say,but it is still historically important to others who want to find something that may have been posted years ago,but had trouble finding a post or series of posts that stemmed from not only a forum, but past GK club posts.Although I am not 100% sure if it directed the search to the older club posts as well.Key words entered by the person searching for related posts would bring up a long list of other related subjects and posts having that word in it.For example,I could type in "Bermuda"and I was able to find any past forum posts, even years earlier that had "Bermuda"in a discussion somewhere! So,you may have forgotten, but it existed sometime after 2005 for sure. When it disappeared again,I do not remember since I have left GK about a dozen times and have returned. In fact,I was a life member 3 times! The 3rd time being in 2019.I simply found that feature a great tool and I know others liked it as well. |

![]() but that post along with other comments got lost over the years and hidden in a long list of other GK posts.I forgot the specifics, but I think you first had to click on either GK related general or GK specific, then a blank bigger box would be at the bottom where you could place a few key words in the box and a long list of "related"older and similar or exacting topics appeared. Many of those topics included others who already left GK or had passed away. The last time I used it(years ago),I remembered a forum topic on the Trompowski Attack between several players, but could not find it at first.Rather than search through endless GK posts,I typed in "Trompowski"and was surprised to find 3 or 4 posts that were chatted about on that opening and from years prior. Its interesting about "priorities"with different options on GK.That word is highly relative. For example, some players come here to only play blitz chess and never even one regular 2 or 3 day per move game and I mean never!Others never play blitz for many reasons including the fact that it is unrated and they feel that its not enough of a challenge. Then we have those who hardly play any regular GK board games but are mainly in the club forums bickering like old ladies!I see it all the time, check their profiles and they have zero games in progress. Then, once in a while there are those who I have called..."forum junkies"who hang around the forums just to chat, get noticed or actually cause frictions and heated arguments(same in many club forums). So,all kinds of priorities exist. But no matter,a search engine would be nice to be added again to those two main forum selections.Perhaps it takes up too much program space with all the other features added over the years? But I do remember asking many others and they enjoyed that feature for obvious reasons. |
