Need A Ladder Class Division
Folks, the 2400+ club has taken all of the fun out of the Ladder Division. If Gameknot wants to re-imagine this important feature of real people (not program) competition, I would recommend they create a Ladder Class (for under 2200) players. There could still be a Ladder Open division.

What say you?

Ladder is Broken
The ladder has needed improvements for quite some time. There are several threads on this forum where this has been discussed. My main complaint is that those higher up on the ladder can effectively block challenges from players below them by simply challenging other players that they can easily defeat. As you state, the only open challenges in the top 100 players or so are generally a few with ratings 2400+. Of course the higher rated players will tend to move to the top, but when its hard to find a comparable player to myself, that is discouraging. Occasionally I am lucky enough to find someone in my class but it is rare. I have reached out to the new GameKnot support on this but so far no response.

I've always been surprised whenever weaker players make it into the top 100 of either slow or fast ladders! I suppose the trick is to make many challenges and whenever you occasionally win you leap forward a large amount whereas when you lose you only drop by one ladder position. As weaker players get into the top 50, this leaping effect boost gets smaller, so you end-up with a logjam of stronger players at the top. Fixing this logjam problem is difficult without forcing top ladder players to accept more challenges.

If a player is so inclined they can game the ladder... but eventually they reach page 1 where almost everyone would crush them, and where it is very difficult to get games even if you are strong enough to swim in those waters...
I think it should be changed that, however many challenges you make, you are forced to accept that many challenges.

Even if a player isn't trying to game the system... they could make so many challenges that no one else would be able to challenge them, even if the player didn't mind taking challenges...
