Disconnectingdisconnected during a game and thus end up forfeiting the game. I know I don't lose any points, but it's really annoying. And I guess it not only upsets me, but it upsets my opponent as well, who might think I just left the board in a rude manner. I can assure anyone that has ever played me that I never leave the board and I usually play till the very end of the game. That's the fun in blitz. However, I've seen on other sites a very nice feature to get rid of problems such as mine. If you get disconnected, the site pings you and tries to re-establish the connection, usually successfully in my case, so I get to finish my games, even with a mediocre connection. The point I'm trying to make is that this is a very good tool to have and if the blitz part of the site ever goes official, i.e. ratings are added, it's a must-have. |

nyctalopFor a long time I've gone withouth disconnects but this week has been bad. And I am having a strange thing where it disconnects me, then brings me back to the board when I reconnect, but as soon as I move anything it disconnects again. Repeat all this 5 times and finally my clock runs out. I wonder if they have been trying out some reconnect feature. I used to just lose the board forever. |

Certain blitz sites do have a ping reestablishment for the game. One of my primary blitz sites(Instantchess)has this feature.I play most of my rated blitz games on that site, infact. But my disconnects have never been from a problem with my computer but my ISP as well...but mine is top notch....Verizon3G network. But what happens is that they usually go down in my area for perhaps 3 to 15 minutes either fri or sat night around 11pm for upgrades or diagnostics to their system...and if I forget and play around that time, then i will get disconnected many times. |
