My apologies
How does a thread on gameknot work, and better yet what is it? I talked about an ongoing tournament once(a while ago) Just something about how it was structured and what actually occurred. I violated the rules and regulations for the forum and I now publicly hope GK and GK forum players can accept a truthful full hearted apology...... thekingni

I'll give this a try, chessfriend . . .
Did you see this Forum Menu page on your way here ? You should unless you used bookmark or URL to arrive.

The Forum Warning is on the top of that page. And the bottom has a link to more Chess related & Community Standard Rules which apply.

"Off-Topic" can be a violation, one that I did not understand; until GK actually explained it for me. In that it does NOT mean JUST Off-The-Subject of the Thread (a common definition of Untopical).
Rather includes Unacceptable Topics of Discussion, as well. (Such as Religion, Politics, & Objections to Moderator Decisions here. So you might as well say it includes "Taboo" topics also. Generally I find that a Topical Post on the Thread subject will not get one banned for including some short off-the-subject comment to another poster ... (I'll give an example of one as my "PS" here.) ... as long as it is NOT OFF-TOPIC (aka Taboo ).
***
Also commonplace is for Thread Topics to drift into related matters, then those related matters drift, etc. * * * *
For EG There is a thread now on the new youngest GM ever, a young girl. That might lead to talk that Bobby Fischer was once youngest. And one of the Polgar sisters the youngest woman to make GM. Someone adds, she made GM, not WGM. Another mentions it was Judith Polgar ( I believe). But Sophia Polgar once held the highest ever tournament performance, from a Rome tourney ... someeone adds that the Polgar training included daily Ping-Pong in addition to Chess studies, ... etc.

In your case, it sounds like you got too specific in your discussion of the tournament? Perhaps you received some advice (whether solicited or not) or asked for discussion of a specific game or position(s)? If its more complex than that, send me a Private Message about it, if you want. I don't want to get too deep here if it could create another Ban ... }8-O

in reply to Craig
So correct!! I was at issue with the general items which happened to be in line with that tournament and how it was perceived that an input could make an item better....(perhaps) well that was the intent anyway! So I requested group input to see about fairness and in keeping with competitive spirit and such, also gave a time-line on when the tournament occurred(in which I believe was my error) So suffice it to say, I am currently chat banned. who knew!! But it's all good(I guess) Don't have a need for it till this moment???? But banned permanently? Wow, I never studied to be a journalist, so once again, I am really sorry to have upset the apple cart(so to speak) and extend my apology to all who have the heart for improvement and the advancement of this excellent site for chess!!!

A first offense forum ban is usually 30 days. But you are still posting here. Are you just concerned about possibly getting one?
***
I don't think that would necessarily affect your CHAT either. Did you get some kind of notice from GK about it? Do you mean CHAT for Blitz Board? or Chat on Correspondence Chess Boards (which is called "comments") ? Or is it Private Messages you have trouble with?
***
The first can only happen if you have been playing blitz. The second might mean player(s) are "Ignoring" you. And the last, PM's may sometimes All be Suspended for some period (unknown to me, days I think) if you have been sending 'too many' recently. Or can mean you are on the intended recipients Ignore List. Or GK may suspend them in such way that you cannot Send PM's but can Reply to PM's you do receive . . .

I will try to send you one now ... lets see what happens with that.

I see, Bill ...
Yes, that message on top of the FORUMS menu is there for everyone as a cautionary statement. And likewise the SOCIAL FORUM is Closed permanently for everyone. Tho if you click on it now, it shows you a list of some of the Clubs, that serve to replace Social Forum. But you do have to have Premium Membership to Club.

The reason for Social Forum closing was apprently due to members "flaming" each other, as they call it when someone gets insulting or disorderly. So finally GK closed it down for good, quite some years back now. Maybe around 2003? It was gone when I got here too. So you are not missing anything there, for no one has a free Social Forum here.

But the remaining Forum areas are still all active. Regards, Craig }8-)
PS// I am not much Computer Person either, so I so understand that~! I learned it back in 80's a bit with MS-DOS, BASIC language programming, and Hayes Modems to the I-Net. ALL of which are quite primative now. But that is as far as I got with it; and still have not found all my own Cell-Phone features, let alone my Computers !!
