GK Access: multi concerns in future
I just rushed to GK to make sure I still have access, & obviously do now. But for how long? Bear in mind my brain is not computer-friendly & seriously defiencient of I-Net understanding.
***
Here is what happened to me just now:

I URL'd youtube to run a playlist & found I had been signed out (tho usually staying Logged In longterm to that site, just as I do with GK) & being asked for my PW to log back in. I gave it but then am informed that I MUST now "link to Google" to go there. In the past it would ask me if I "Wanted To Link?" or "remind me later?". No option for Decline & Never Ask Me Again. Now however, no Log-In was permitted without Linking.

So I linked it to my existing GoogleCOM account, which also has my Gmail. And let it add Google as a Home Page Tab also. NOW i can LOG-IN to Google & get to Youtube ...but the site no longer plays for me.

I don't know how Google manages to Intrude itself into more & more of my online experience ... but I don't like it.

I now have these concerns:

1) Is it going to tell me at sometime in the future that I must Link GK to Google ? And I cannot get here If I do not do that? ...just like happed with YouTube ? And when I DO LINK, then GK stops working for me too?
------------------------------------
2) Or will I just lose my ability to post to the Forums here ... because GOOGLE has their SEARCH feature in GK Forums now?
--------------------------------------
I have no idea what kind of relationship GOOGLE has with either YOUTUBE OR GAMEKNOT. But do know that besides the GOOGLE SEARCH being in FORUMS here ... GK has also used GOOGLE ANALYTICS [& apparently some other GOOGLE thing I cannot recall the name of, that showed up before on redirect]. And so this worries me about future access here and/or proper functioning of the site for me, if the BIG-GOO does barge into my GK experience.

Especially as the Forums are the main source of my enjoyment here, along with Blitz play. Any definative answers; or speculation, is most welcome.

I do not understand this matter. Is it continuing a trend of GOOGLE gobbling up the net? (Apparently there has been some concern from News Broadcast networks about the amount of informational control Big G is getting !?) Or Google And other Competitors trying to infiltrate into or control more and more sites/access? Do we need to worry about Yahoo, MSN, etc too?

OR is Gameknot able to stand alone & keep the present high quality & accessibility ?

PS// could this whole problem just be due to my present dependence on IE ? I could change to FireFox or something and make it go away!? I have DEFINATELY stayed away from CHROME on this CPU, and GOOGLE DESKTOP as well; due to problems caused on the last CPU ...

Oh yes ... I forgot my other, present concern re
my being able to access GK Forum links to youtube ?! So I am making a link to this Blitz Game of Nakamura, to see if I can still see such links work. Does it work for YOU if you click this?

...
Google owns YouTube, so they can link the account system all they want. They do not own GameKnot so it's unlikely any such linkage would ever happen. I if Google bought GameKnot (probably just to annoy Yahoo, heh), they might do something, but it seems unlikely.

Thanks for the info insainoman ... That's
great to hear. I was hoping maybe they did own youtube or such. I certainly hope GK does not become Googlized. Or even Yahoo~ooooow'd.

I wrote in a Bug Report to Google and received a nice 'Thank you very much for your input, and we are very sorry we cannot answer you ...' note in reply. It good to know they appreciate knowing when they mess-up a site for someone. I feel much better now. And SAFER too, because if they care That much, I bet they also have a 1-800-HowsMyDriving number on all their vehicles. And its just good to be appreciated.

I got the current snafu solved with video-player change, so get to keep my browser. Not have to go Chrome or something (yet...) .

So I take it that using Analytics is some manner of Purchase, License, or Rental kind of thing? Not a sign of take-over? maybe ? Hopefully ? Otherwise, I want to start getting ready for The Crash~! }8-D
