The Anand thread; Interviews with the Champion, etc
I got to see the second one and really enjoyed it. Learned Tal and Fischer were his boyhood Chess idols. And of the large number of games with Karpov and Kasparov. etc. Quite interesting. www.chessbase.com www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=6267 PS, I happened on this by changing the last digit of the url and new stories come up. 6265 was about the start of the match with Topalov , from Algol's thread .

Also ....
an achievement that I do not recall done since Botvinnik(?) ... to attain the title by Tournament, then Match, then successfully defending it. (Was Khalifman by tmt; but did not do all this, right? Or am I confusing his Highest Tmt Performance Elo ever ... I believe he did over 3000 to exceed the prior 2900+ by Sophia Polgar in Rome. But has someone not now passed both those?)

Anand got some tips from Carlsen for this match
www.sueddeutsche.de Near the end Anand says "Yes, Magnus helped me a bit. We maintain contact and it was nice to get some tips from him."

Carlsen and Kasparov helping Anand with WCC prep
In the interview on playchess Anand says that he had Carlsen for a few days as sparring partner to try out some of the planned positions. Kasparov also reviewed Anand's repertoire and answered some questions using his old database. You can listen to Anand here www.youtube.com

It does help...
when you have the world's current no. 1 player and the player with the world's highest chess rating helping you out in your game

...
He could use the help. Rumour has it that Topalov was using the new Rybka 4.0 - before it was officially released - on a computer cluster totalling 112 cores. (Source www.chessbase.com). Chess on top level really has become a different game - if there still was some doubt.

Kramnik and Giri too...
The youtube interview was terminated a bit early, but the chessbase interview shows that Kramnik and Giri were also helping Anand. That is quite an impressive unofficial team he had against Topalov. That must have been a tremendous boost for Anand, especially when Anand was playing Kramnik's openings.

Rather amazing ...
World unity vs the Bulgarian Chess machine (And That really sounds like Sci-fi if you lived thru the 70's). What's next, world peace ?! Topalov et al become more isolated. But nix the bad boys and Top is very much in a Fischerlike situation. Makes me wonder. Do the Fischer types change the Chess world, or does IT squish them into its own mold . . .

Wouldn't be surprised
I wouldn't be surprised if Anand had help from other strong grandmasters who are against the Topalov team back in 2006 world championship match which he versed Kramnik. The Topalov team really can't hack defeat without complaining and a bitter remark.
