Both of You Came Close to Winning!
I agree, Carlos; when playing through your game after Qxb2, given the pressure you had on g2 as well, it surely looked like a win. Your opponent had to find some good moves to survive. Soren also gave himself nice chances to win. Keep it up, team!

Regards,
Loren

P.S. Carlos, you have it exactly right--what I try to do in those openings is to reach a middlegame where Wnite has fixed Ps and I can manuever my pieces around to attack them and undermine the defending Ps. When I can get such a position, I am a happy man!

To heinzkat
I have actually trying to find out if chess programs are forbidden (like here at GK) to use on ICCF, but I haven't got a clear answer to that yet. However it is for me not an issue since programs like that after my opinion cannot win games for you anyway- in best cases they can prevent you from making blunders. In my intro comments on all new games I always ask my opponents if they are using any kinds of electronic aids, just so I know what I'm up against, although they can decide not to reply or give false feedback, my experience are after many years of play at ICCF, that people give a straight answer back. My preparation for games at ICCF as well as here at Gameknot goes mainly on opening and endgames, most games are won in those faces of the games!

Excellent
and well done Loren, this is a very good result! I can wholehearted follow Carlos in his comments, I've learned so much from our games on the Aljechin as well as other games we have shared!

Keep up momentum "peace warriors" I'm figthing for my "chesslife" in one of my games against a very clever and tough Russian player.

Tough Russians!
I know what you mean, Soren. Another Russian surprised me with a new move in the Pterodactyl and now I have to find some very good moves or slide into quicksand. If I had seen that move coming, I would have played a different, safer move on my previous turn!

Good luck and good chess to all,
Loren

Crazy Day!
Watch out--mad chessplayer!! I sacrificed my Q in one game and a piece in another. I hope it was not just a day of chess-insanity *LOL*!

Very Solid
I liked the way you "traded" the isolated P for the 2 B's. Unfortunately, he did not give you any help after that; like Carlos, said, he switched to "Draw" mode.

White Did Not Try for Much, Eh?
Seems as if White was playing for a draw. Unfortunate! It is hard to win with Black in QGD if White does not overextend. One of my opponents in a similar line (opponent Black) accelerated Black's Qside play by omitting a6 for a quick Bb7 and Rc8. We'll see how that one comes out. My "sac" games (piece sacrifice and Q sacrifice) are both going well, but my Pterodactyl with Black vs. the top-rated Russian looks very bleak now--my extra material will melt away soon and will probably be followed by more *sigh*!

Again, good job, Soren, and like Carlos said, it's time for us to win one!!

Review
Dear teammates:

In my games, I have to say that in the board # 1 seems to be quite afraid to innovate and in general all the games are balanced. Fortunately, if I am not mistaken in my analysis should not lose any game but there is one that is still in the early movements.

On the positive side, I think I have a game won with white against my fellow Gutierrez Dopino and good prospects against Italian opponent used Dutch Stonewall.

Therefore, I have enough time to analyze your games and effectively Pterodactyl Loren does not look good but to analyze games with the delay of 5 movements can lead to errors

Hans on the other hand moves slowly and all items are matched, while Soren has good prospects in 3 or 4 of their games, although there is also a problem in another.

In any case, we must try our best and sure Loren finds a solution and its super-bright half game

Greetings

Dvojnoj Shakh
is the team to beat. Currently has 87% of the total points in games finished and rating seems the strongest team. Hans, Loren and myself must put every effort in deducting points to that team in our head to head. In my case, playing white, I have some advantage in order to a disjointed black pieces of my opponent.. I hope it ends well.

Fortunately, in my current game I have a couple of games close to victory and no risk of defeat even though I have two games in the opening.

Fortunately . . .
. . . the Russian I'm losing to isn't from Dvojnoj Shakh, though I still have plenty of chances to lose to THEIR player, too! That game is still in the opening. BTW, the opponent that I sacrificed my Q against bailed out into a just-a-little-worse ending by returning the Q. I probably cannot win, but I will definitely try!

Congratulations to Soren for scoring the first win, and of course condolences for the first loss. And keep up the good play, Carlos--you are proving that you can take on those Board One killers!

P.S. on Board Order
It looks as if some of the other teams were being tricky (like us) in choosing their board order--for example, the Italian player that Soren beat easily is rated more than 200 points below their 4th board!

Another draw (me as black)
Second draw in the first board, also with black. Really i am quite happy because this was my worse game in the middle game.

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nf6 3.Nxe5 d6 4.Nf3 Nxe4 5.d4 d5 6.Bd3 Bd6 7.O-O O-O 8.c4 c6 9.Re1 Re8 10.Qb3 b6 11.Nc3 Nxc3 12.Rxe8+ Qxe8 13.Qxc3 Bg4 14.Bd2 Bxf3 15.gxf3 Qd8 16.Kg2 h6 17.cxd5 cxd5 18.Qb3 Nc6 19.Qxd5 Nb4 20.Bxb4 Bxb4 21.Qe4 g6 22.f4 Rc8 23.Rd1 Kg7 24.Qe5+ Kg8 25.f5 Bd6 26.Qe3 g5 27.h3 Be7 28.b3 Bf6 (draw)

I think this game is good for keep it in the database in order to 18th white move. Is really good because black could have to start a wrong attack whick finished in a lost endgame.

I preferred to assure draw with 18.- ... Nc6. This endgame had one less pawn but with bishops of differents colours.........

Greetings and wins from here.

another draw against the Argentinian player from Rey Gris, me as withe:

1.e4 e6 2.d4 d5 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bg5 dxe4 5.Nxe4 Be7 6.Bxf6 gxf6 7.Nf3 f5 8.Nc3 Qd6 9.Qe2 a6 10.O-O-O Nd7 11.d5 e5 12.Re1 e4 13.Nd2 Nb6 14.f3 Nxd5 15.Nxd5 Qxd5 16.fxe4 fxe4 17.Qxe4 Qxe4 18.Rxe4 Bf5 19.Re5 Bg6 20.g3 Kf8 21.Bg2 Bf6 1/2 1/2

I'm afraid I'm nothing getting more out of my withe games that I had hoped for in this tournament here  ( So these draws are more "damage control" in order not to loose points on behalf of the Team by loosing foolish games! I have another draw coming up shortly against the Spanish player from Torres Quevedo. I hope I soon will provide another win for the team!
