Draw
has been secured by our 4th board player Loren, congrats with that.
I know you are disappointed Loren, but playing at ICCF is a totally different experience, compared to GK. I have over the years been in many similar situations like you describe so good above and even lost a winning game on the same account, but at least you secured the draw. Next season we play, you will be much better prepare for the way the games go!

Looks Like 4th Place for Peace
The top three Russian teams seem to have clinched 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. We should catch the Psychokillers, who will have 0 or .5 in their last game vs. Carlos while we will get at 1.5 or 2 from Carlos and at least .5 from me. If Carlos only gets 1.5 and Hans and I both lose our other games, we tie for 4th but will have 17 match points vs. Psychos 16. If we get any of the other possible points, (.5 more for Carlos or me), we are clear 4th--unless Ruy Gris somehow wins all of the remaining games except the one with Carlos.

Huzzah, Carlos!
Carlos wins again! If he can pull off the last one, he'll get his IM norm. We have at least two draws from the remaining three games. As in my last post, that means a probable tie for 4th and we have the better match points.

Well played!!

Thank you
Teammates. It has certainly been a very long game where I refuse until four times my opponent's
draw offers.

What will happen in the remaining game? It looks like a final but it is not identical because there
pawns faced. But I assure you is that I will fight for victory, not for the IM Norm, but get to the
high standing possible.

This is a game and we have all made mistakes that cost us some points, but we must avoid
losing points for timeout. To reach the next level and this can not happen ever.

Down to one game now as the other ended (as expected) in a draw. The last 10 moves were unnecessary, of course.

4th Place Clinched
We cannot catch Alpha for 3rd (2.5 points behind with 2 games to finish). Ruy Gris cannot catch us (1.5 points behind with 1 game to finish). We are tied with Psycho Killers who have one game remaining (with Carlos). Since Carlos will win or draw, at best they will tie us in game points, but .5 from Carlos will give us 17 match points vs. their 16.

Still hoping that we might get lucky and get 1.5 (1 for Carlos and .5 for me), but that will effect only Carlos's IM norm, not our team result.

My last game continues. I shall keep trying to hold it. It has been an honor to play with you, my friends.

Last Ditch Blockade
I am engaged in my last-ditch blockade atttempt in the final game. His hP is poised to go to the 7th but my B and R will attempt to stop it and simultaneously hold back the K. Then it becomes a question of whether his K or N can make progress in deflecting my pieces or advancing his other P. If/when the blockade fails, I fall. "Once more into the breach, dear friends! Or fill up the walls with our dead!"

Noble Effort
Carlos, you came so close to winning that game but he defended perfectly. The end position is of course a theoretical draw (and the whole theory of Q + g/bP vs. Q in current books is all based on tablebases; humans were never able to figure it out completely--my old Averbakh and Fine endgame books have different conclusions than the current ones). I am sad that you played so magnificently in the whole tournament and missed your norm by a single hair.

Next time!!

Time to Resign
If my opponent plays the correct move now (he is on leave), I shall resign, thus ending our season with a solid 4th place in a good field. We were close to advancing (I personally threw away two wins to draws by sloppy play), so I am optimistic about future results should Peace reassemble for the next season. Again, I found it an honor to play with you--salut, Carlos, Soren, and Hans.

I have continued to play some ICCF games and have qualified for the Afro-Asian Zonal semis among other things. I am adjusting to the time of play. And I am still undefeated in actual games with White on GK and ICCF! (I lost one White game here by timeout in a P+ position before they had the automatic vacation system). Perhaps I should play some safer Black openings?

Your friend,
Loren

We
have finished our games in the third Champion League season and here is the final individual scores:

Board 4 Fmgaijin +4-1=6 7 points.
Board 3 Harpov +2-2=8 6 points.
Board 2 Cairo +5-1=6 8 points.
Board 1 Carlosmart +3-0=9 7½ points.

Total: +14-4=29 28½ points.

The result was not enough for promotion to the "B" group. We ended up on a respectful 4th place and would like to thanks all my fellow "peace warriors" and congrats them with some very fine games and I'm confident, that next season will be "ours" for promotion!

Next season
Information from ICCF:

Champions League

Tuesday, June 05, 2012: update

A few key games that determine next season's sections will be adjudicated next month and team captains are being contacted regarding these. This will enable Champion League 5 to start hopefully in October before the ICCF congress. A further announcement will be made soon regarding how to enter and the Champions webpage will also be updated with further information. Apologies for the delay as per the ICCF calendar of events but there have been too many games that decide promotion and relegation to proceed with the next cycle until very recently.

further season?
Hello together

I think we should continue with our project "Power that preserves". As far I know we have time to decide till September 14th 2012 for the entry into the tournament. If there is your wish I can manage again the team-captain-position. You haven't hear much of mine in the past times and you may observed that I've lost different games by not moving in time. I've had and have actually several personaly problems, but I hope to be back soon okay.

If somebody else is ready to take over the team-captaincy, it would be okay for me too, no regret and I could understand this step. I'm always convinced that our team has the cracks what can manage the promotion till to the A-League.

Myself I will play next season for the SchemingMind-Team in the A-League. I earned this honor by being member of the team that promote into this A-League.

Please let me know your opinion.

As always:
Chessfriendly Yours

I am ready....
Dear Daniel:

I sincerely hope that your personal problems are solved or its solution is early.

For me (and I speak also on behalf of Soren and Loren, although they are expressed by themselves) we are very proud to belong to the team and your leadership as you have done from the beginning. And we are willing to get into this new season to reach the higher divisions.

I can not speak for Hans as he has remained silent on his games and his defeats by timeout.

My opinion, like the previous seasons, is that team members must have an absolute commitment to try to win and attend to their movements in time.

So I am at your disposal to discuss both the composition of the team and the board order.

Greetings

Agree Completely
Dear Daniel:

Like Carlos, I appreciate your efforts on our behalf and your willingness to make an objective decision on board order and team composition. I really enjoy playing as a team member and am happy to play on whichever board you choose for me. I am glad that your personal situation is improving, and I congratulate you on your team's promotion. We came close again this past year and I am optimistic that if we all play our best and avoid time forfeits, we can gain promotion this time.

Highest regards,

Dear Peace Warriors
I have confirmation from all former members and players on: Peace Power That Preserves, to participate in the upcoming season of The Champions League at ICCF and also our honorable Captain Daniel (kumpan) has agreed to be our Captain for the new season!

Remember that it is of utmost importance, that all players avoid timeouts. We cannot afford to loose games on timeouts, so please plan your games in accordance with the timetable!
Another important issue is staying in contact. It should always be possible for the Captain to be in contact by mail, with all players in the team. One must, without undue delay, answer emails from your captain!

I suggest the following board order for the new season:

1st. board: Carlos (carlosmart)
2nd. board: Loren (fmgaijin)
3rd. board: Søren (cairo)
4th. board: Hans (harpov)

This is only my humble suggestion, please let me here your opinion back.

Looking forward to play with your good people for the new season!

Thoughts on Board Order
Team Members:

Soren has asked me to comment. I like the idea of keeping Carlos on Bd. 1 since he played so well there last season. He is very tough against those top level players and is a hard man to beat. I can see the next two boards either way. Soren is also playing well (in fact, he finally beat me in a GK game for the first time this year!) and had a strong result last season, but I am also getting the hang of ICCF and have won a Zonal prelim recently and expect to win another Zonal prelim and a World Cup prelim that I am currently playing, so I am willing to go either way (2nd or 3rd). I am still undefeated with White in both GK and ICCF with the exception of one timeout on GK before they added the automatic leave system.

Regards,
Loren

Board order - to be discussed
Hello together

What do you think about this team board order for the next season?

Board 1: cairo
Board 2: carlosmart
Board 3: harpov
Board 4: fmgaijin

I put cairo back to the 1st board to give him the chance to win the 3rd SIM-Norm.
And this board order is according to the ICCF ELO-ratinglist.

I hope it would be okay for you too.

Either of the two options in the order of the boards may be correct, as long as test do not risk an individual interest points. Must prioritize the collective interest.
