4th CL-season ante portas

Hello my friends,

I've sent today an e-mail to the teammembers. In the actual 3rd season we have still one open game. Itos actually not clear if the team will promote for the next season or not.

But I've the great pleasure that fmgaijin will be the new member of "Peace: Power that Preserves".

We have now to discuss the board order for the new season. Please let me know what do you think.

Wherever You Think I Will Score Best

I am playing for fun and comradeship, so I am happy to play whichever board the rest of you believe will give us the best team score. As most of you know, I play very solidly with White and rarely lose (only GK loss with White was a timeout) but play more riskily for wins with Black (Alekhine, Scandinavian, Benko, etc.) and sometimes lose/sometimes win. Which board would my style work best on?

Dear Chessfriends,

First of all I would like to welcome Loren fmgaijin to our great Team and thank you for joining us Loren I'm sure you will fit perfectly in to our Team.
The last two seasons in Champions League I have had the honor of playing 1st. board for our Team. I think it is time to change the board order and especial if you look at the results the last two seasons, it is only naturally I suggest the following board orders:

1st board carlosmart (he have made absolutely outstanding results)
2nd board fmgaijin (his playing style and knowledge is superb and will fit spot on)
3rd board cairo (perhaps I then can avoid a loss this time)
4th board harpov (Hans will wipe the board here)

I truly believe the above set-up would be fantastic and I'm really looking forward to the new season!

I think Daniel, our captain, knows all members so well. He has played with all a lot of times. Then, would be better Daniel choose the right order. Anyway, the highest quality of whole members of them is enough for promoting next level.

Just a Thought

Perhaps it makes a difference whether we are in Group B or Group C, nicht wahr? That is, because we have a rather small range of playing strengths compared to some of the other teams in C (For example, I have a small plus score against each of you but have also lost a nice game to Carlos and have had narrow escapes against Soren and Hans and most of your results against each other are similarly clsoe). If so, in B we might need to "sacrifice" a player on a high board (probably a very solid player who might escape with many draws?) to score better on the bottom boards. Looking at the opponents' ratings in C, it seems as if we should do well on the bottom boards with any of us and likewise any of us should do fine on the top boards (though scoring a bit less, perhkaps, just like last season).

Dear Teammates:

Forgive my silence during last weeks, but I had all sorts of avatars, fortunately all are completed correctly.

I totally agree that as a team we should formulate a strategy, although the choice of it depends on whether we are finally included in group B or C.
One of the premises to act as a team is that we play with our best weapons do not frivolities. For example, using the Alekhine defense is frivolous in my case that did not dominate at all, while I think Loren knows all their secrets. In the three editions that I've been playing white pieces, I've been reasonably aggressive and rather conservative with black ones and I remember that I lost only a game only to 30 played and I've always been in 7 out of 10 or higher. With this result repeated, more or less, evenly within the team, if we play C sure we try. If we play B probably with an average of 6 points each would have no problem in settling in the category.
In any case, we will have time to talk about it.

I agree that Carlos is very tough to beat--if he is not forced to play Alekhine's Defense *grin*! I think that was Soren's reason for putting him on #1 in his proposed lineup.

Sorry friends, but we are starting the 4th season of Champions league again in the C-league. This is due to the promoting rules of ICCF described by Eugen Demian Valer:

Promoted to B = 26 teams as follows:
16 teams from League C (1st and 2nd)
4 teams from FT (1st)
6 teams from D (1st).
Total = 52 teams.

as per id=www.iccf.com

As we've ended the 3rd season of Champions league in our C-league on the 3rd place our team will not promote for the new season.

So I suggest the following board order:

1st board carlosmart
2nd board cairo
3rd board harpov
4th board fmgaijin

Please let me know, if it is okay for you.

By the way, I'm starting for the C-team of the Hounds of SchemingMind at the 4th board in the B-league, so no danger of playing against my own team

Dear teammates:

Honestly, I think my level is not for the first board, but I abide by the decision of the majority or the team captain.

Really important is ensuring that we play and not making frivolous points or taking risks in unfamiliar positions. We have level to ensure 70% of the points board game, which undoubtedly will lead to level B.

If the Plan Is . . .

. . . to put a very solid player on #1 and then hope that I make a big plus on #4, then I have no problem with it. I should have some good shots at wins with Black this first time if I play well because opponents will have only some of my OTB games in their databases (for example, they will have my loss to GM Anand but not my wins in the same variation vs. GM Benjamin and GM Thipsay and they will have my loss to GM Johansen but not my CC improvements on that game vs. anakin and javel/ewiman here on GK). What do Hans and Soren think?
