This looks like it is jsut to defend the Pawn on f, but it also initiates an attack.

I figured he would move c2-c3 next. Then I would move the Bishop to e7 to drive his Queen away.

This was a surprise blunder. He forgot all about "what can he do to me" and went to "what can I do to him".
