What about Rd7?

18... Rc7 19.Bd6 Rcd7 ? in this situation white has to sacrifice his bisschop to achieve his goal.

@bert1bell Rc7 Bd6? is met with Rxd6. So Rc7 seems best.

@cdeburca Rd7 Bh3 isn't much better. Rc7 Rab1 still looks rather messy.

There is a mate around the corner if black goes wrong. I.e. 21..Qa5?? 22.Nh6+ Kh8 23.Qg8+! Rxg8 24.Nf7 mate.

That's not bad for you: 2 pieces are usually greater than a rook and pawn.

If 21... Qd7 22. Nxe5+ winning the queen.

And even if you could do that, White still remains up an exchange, so the position isn't even.

Things don't look good but you do have three minor pieces for two rooks which helps a little.

for the last 5 moves white has expoited the fact that you have not respected the cardinal rule of attacking a pawn. 1. Control the square directly in front of it. In this case it is d5. 2. attack it with everything you have. 3. Block it's forward advance with a knight.

But then he loses the g7 bishop.

If g4/e4, you can just take the d6 pawn! Yeah, I probably missed the bisschop  

he probably didn't see any good move so he waits for you to move and hopes that you make a mistake (like Kxc7)

f4 is better.

Bad bad move. Throws away the entire advantage.

The bishops are better than the rook in the endgame

Don't really think this is an negative move for white however a move like h4 seems a bit better...

We're getting to the endgame and in the endgame you king has to be in the field and consequentially, exposed

a5 is better.
