Not much of a trap, since one would expect Black to notice the piece is protected. Still, a good and purposeful developing move.

I give it as the best move. What Michael posted is correct, but after 11...Be7 black is left with what I call a semi cramped position where his mobility will be limited since his Dark Squared Bishop will only cover 3 squares.

Not especially well timed. 13. Nxd6+ would win a pawn and ensure that Black can never castle.

However, this is what I also would've played. But, Michael is correct, and that's something I would've overlooked. You wouldn't think it'd win a pawn, but if black recaptures, white has the Q on d1. So, it's an important tactical motif which is important to think about, Erika.

Castling is fine, here, but 13.Qxd6! and 13.Nxd6ch!? would have also been good moves. In fact White could have played 11.Bg5 as she did with the express purpose of winning the d-pawn, OR forcing Black to give up castling in its defence (12...Kxe7). After 13.Nxd6ch Kf8 14.Qd2 would have threatened 15.Qh6ch then 16.Ne4, obviating nasty counter-attacks down the d-file.

What does this move achieve? Nxd6+ was still on.

It prevents 14.Bg4 which I'd be afraid of, but Michael is correct about the tactical motif.

Best here was probably 14.Qxd6, winning a pawn and practically forcing Black to exchange - or permit the exchange of - queens.

Nxd6 or Qxd6 is best.

And, 15.Nxd6 still worked.

Now the win of the d6-pawn is 'off the table', but otherwise this retreat makes sense, threatening to exchange knight for bishop, but also if now ...Bg4, Ng5!.

I prefer 18.Ng5, here, but this move renews the threats against d6.

The last few moves leave an odd impression. Black threatens the knight, but instead of taking it he marks time, seemingly hoping for repetition, and then spurns repetition and captures the knight after all!

I don't see them as odd, Michael. And, I see why black played them, but it was just that one move that I also would've overlooked. But, by my books, Erika is playing quite well. But, the last move was a mistake that lost a pawn. Best was 18.Nh2.

You have to be careful here, Erika as the King is, potentially, exposed.

I would have captured the d6-pawn, probably with the queen. But this move, though it slightly weakens White's King defences, still permits the subsequent capture of that pawn: 20.g3!? Qe7 21.Nxd6ch Kf8 22.Nxb7 Qxb7 23.Qd6ch ... and 24.Bxc6, winning the exchange on a8. Having said that, after 20...Qh3, Black will have some interesting counter-play based on ...Nd4 and ...Rf8 (or ...0-0).

Probably White would be well-advised now to play 21.Bg2, chasing out the queen. Actually, Black would find that move moderately embarrassing, as the queen would have but one safe move: ...Qe6. Can you see what would happen to the Black queen if it plays any move other than 21...Qe6 in response to 21.Bg2?
