Thanks! I was staring at the board for 20 minutes and once again I missed the GIANT ELEPHANT! Somehow I must have been creating a pawn in front of the rook in my head and all that "My brain fills in the gaps" jazz.

Just a suggestion: when your opponent makes such a move, look around to make sure the attacking piece isn't protected, or what the consequences might be if it is a sacrifice.

That is definitely why I do the chess tactics. To make seeing the unseen a little easier. I always make it a point to view the entire board but once in a while my eyes glaze over and I mentally place pieces that aren't even there.
