Question

Is this the only playable solution to black's problem? What about the following continuation:
2. ... d6 3. Bxd6 Qd7. 4. Qxg7 Qxc6 5. Qxh8+
What do you think?

I think 3.Qxg7 is better

2.Qg5 d6
3.Qxg7 Rf8
4.Bxd6

Yes

You're right, your continuation is much better but because of that, Black would have to play a little bit differently I think. After 3. Qxg7 Qd7 4. Qxh8+ Ke7. If Black moves 3. ... Rf8 he or she will either lose the Queen or be checkmated.
In either way, the official solution or this one, Black would be down 5 pawns. The question now is, which of these is better for Black?
