Unfinished

Too often I struggle with the highly rated puzzles only to find that they remain incomplete. This one is a prime example. The final move to solve does NOTHING. These do not teach they only confuse.

this incompleteness is just because the moves after this don't require a genius mind.. A novice chess player can tackle 'em..

"the way you work them" do not teach

1800 problems do not look like 1500 problems which often are direct forced mates.

the difficulty of 1800 problems often reside in the possibility of a move that doesn't check, but threaten mate by the next moves, whatever the opponent do.

you need to learn this tactical vision to improve your chess skills.

however, you will find 2000 rating problem even more "imcomplete" for the reason that: solutions often result in a stronger position without any material gain.

To leave one's opponent's king trapped with no safe squares and threatening mate is not "incomplete." Nor does it "[do] nothing." That should be your goal in every chess game.

My own blindness in these tactical exercises is that I do not always determine which tactics were merely meant to gain material. I am always looking first and foremost to attacking the enemy king no matter the cost, so I often let slip a line that doesn't win the game, but wins a piece.
